Ouch! - your fluid level is below the 25 Deg C mark. Very low. Should be up between the top markings at 80 Deg C. You had better go & get some fluid from the dealer & top up.
See splinter's pics in the link above.
BTW - engine temp is not a good indication of transmission temp.

Also, how am I suppose to measure the temp?

You fill it down the dipstick tube. You have no option but to use a thermometer on the pan. The dealer uses the Star. Read splinter's instructions. Infra red thermometer is best but a bulb thermometer will work. Autozone loan out IR thermometers. If you want to buy one then Raytek IR thermometers are the only ones I have experience with & make some of the best. I have their top model & their baby.

I forgot about the Fluke - I've used them as well. All Fluke instruments are excellent.

That is the only way I could measure it when I did. And how off exactly would using the engine temp be from the tranny temp?
And what do you mean by "use a thermometer on the pan"
In the mean time, I just want to fill it up with tranny fluid. (not literally) I'll take it to get a flush next weekend, since I don't have much time this coming weekend.
And I appreciate your help guys! I'm learning so much every day!

One more thing! Approximately how many liters of ATF is required to fill the tranny to the recommended level?
Part number: 001-989-68-03-10 if I'm not mistaking?

The full charge is about 8 quarts - to do a flush is about 12 quarts - to just do a change is about 5 quarts. The whole problem is that there is no torque converter drain on our cars so estimating fluid required depends on how much you can get out of the transmission cooler, lines & TC. C230 Sport Coup has a DIY full flush procedure in his transmission thread.
Part number for the latest fluid is A 001 989 45 03 or A 001 989 21 03 10 for the older fluid. Both are fine but the latest will last longer. Your number is probably for the American packaging of the latest fluid. Where did you get that? If it's from Johnand's many postings then it is correct.

You can drive it immediately - Once you've started the car run the selector up & down the gate a few times & then check that the level is at least on the dipstick. Then take it for a ride & get it up to 80 Deg C. Then do a proper level check.

OK - idle the car until the transmission pan temperature gets up to 80 Deg C. Top off the fluid to the 80 Deg C mark on the dipstick. Let's get fluid level correct first.
If this does not work my next suspicion is that the TCU has things locked out. Next try disconnecting/reconnecting the battery to achieve a hard reboot of the TCU.
If this does not work we need to check the Electrohydraulic bush for leaks & have a look for oil at the TCU by lifting the passenger side floor matt at the front kick plate & see if there is any sign of oil on the floor or at the TCU harness.
If this does not work then a damaged electrohydraulic unit in the tranny is a possibility.
Can you please get hold of an OBDII scanner that reads transmission codes & check for stored codes. Autozone will loan you one.
If this does not work then it's to the dealer to put it on the Star & read for trouble & re-adapt the TCU.
Do this one thing at a time & report back.
I will point you to the necessary threads for checking the electrohydraulic bush. I've posted it many times as have others.
Right - so get that level correct & disconnect then reconnect the battery.
I suppose it's possible that the shift linkage is broken/become disconnected but I have never seen this happen - ever.

I see the Indy comments above - do these basic checks first. You can take it to an Indy but only if they have a Star or a Snap On Solus - minimum, or they can't do the transmission adaption.

Please find a thermometer. Even if you buy a real cheap thing or borrow one from Autozone. Alternative. Leave it overnight in a garage & check the level at 25 Deg C

I don't know if its bad luck, but I went to both AutoZone and O'Reilly but neither carry/have an IR Thermometer in stock.
So the alternative would be to wake up early in the morning around 6 or so and check it at 25 Deg C?

25 Deg C is 77 Deg F - So check it when your ambient temperature is around 77F & the transmission has had enough time to cool off completely.

Sorry, I wasn't thinking straight, just starting to get a bit worried. I'll check it tomorrow morning, top off at 25 Deg C if required, and then report back and go from there.
Thanks Glyn.

No problem - I understand. I wish I knew what exactly the lady did to the car but we will probably never know. Let's hope it is just locked in a protected mode. I would leave the battery disconnected over night as well. Then you know that all capacitors in all the microprocessors will have discharged.
