Filled up car, ESP error and CEL
I’m writing this just in case this happens to an owner and hope it helps. I will update when problem is resolved. Thanks
So filled up my 07 C230SS with 50K miles on the clock, family inside we started driving. All of a sudden beep-beep sound and my ESP is on the screen and check engine light lit up. Car started to bog and seems that limp mode is initiated. Finally pull up the driveway parked and switch ignition to off and then I tried to start it again, but it would turnover until after a few tries, but when it did it just misfired. Now I let it sit for a few hours and restart and fired up, but with CEL light still on. The next day, I called my MB SA and he suggested to drive the car in ASAP.
My wife said it started up, but CEL is still on. Upon merging to the highway the car cuts off, she was able to restart it but sluggish. I contacted my MB SA again he said to turn off the ESP, so it will not read the car’s speed and readjust it. I did check my gas receipt and I did fill up with 93 and drove by the gas station to double check that I didn’t mistakenly used diesel.
History of my car so far has been – recalibrate transmission so when at a stop the car does not lurch forward – resolved. Replace pulley and serpentine belt due to high squeak when cold start – resolved. Replace sensor due to CEL, I think it’s the cam sensor, because the MB Tech mentioned oil on the sensor – resolved.
Please stay tuned…

MBWorld Fanatic!
please note the CAMshaft position sensor is entirely different from CRANKshaft position sensor. Crankshaft position sensor is at the rear of the engine. Camshaft position sensors are located in the front of the engine.
Which one did they change? Please look at the receipt.

Sorry and correct .. Crankshaft Position Sensor located near the firewall. I wil update with CEL code and part number. From what i have been told that these go bad at extreme heat and when cooled down the car runs great, until it warms up again. The ESP warning that appeared on the control panel, not the triangle with the exclamation mark is related to the CPS failure. Turning of the ESP will help drive the car safely and reduce the stalling.
Thanks again..
Thanks again..

Good old CPS - common.
The other thing that can cause what you describe straight after a refill is flooding the Carbon canister on the EECS by overfilling.
Pleased you got it fixed.

Thanks everyone. Car is fixed..
here is a summary:
Checked for DTC - Found 0703, Crank Sensor
Crank sensor part number 642-905-00-00 description Sender Unit.
Hope this helps anyone with this problem.
PS - i do have another open warranty that their rep has to approve. The top corner passenger side of my windshield is actually delamination. There is a vois where the glue and glass has a void. allowing water to collect. I keep an update with another thread.
