sunroof making noise

My sunroof recently started a creaking noise, very light but annoying if I have the roof open no noise, it only does it when it’s closed and it doesn’t do it all the time. When im driving it sounds like the roof is making a creek sound which goes along with whatever bumps in the road I am going over. Any ideas? I’m about to cal the dealer and have them look at it.

Mine doesn't creak (yet). You could try rubbing some silicone-rich ultrablack rubber care stuff onto the edge seals, which I have done.

I have the same problem and the car has seen the dealer three times about it. I think this is one of those pesky known issues.
People do report that after about 6-12 times of repair attempts, the problem is solvable!

I would recommend against putting any substance on the rubber seal - you never know if it will make the noise worse or better. Just let the dealer deal with it.

3 times already

and it keeps coming back - the rattle is more annoying each time. Dealer inserted more foam to the max. Still same noise.

Here is a easy fix:

Open tilt your roof, put your hands in there and you will feel a a long piece of aluminum going across the sunroof and it is umm... i guess you would say spring loaded, because you can actually push it up and down.

This is what you do, put your fingers under the aluminum piece and just push up, hard. I do usually push in 3 spots, far right, far left and the middle of the aluminum piece.

This will usually last for about 1-2 weeks, then it comes back. It is quite a easy fix, you can do it while driving, which is when I usually do it. When i hear it, i reach up and push on the aluminum piece, then it's gone.

Another easy fix, a little more complicated, but STILL very easy.

Goto Pepboys/Autozone, get some self sticking weather strips, cur it to the full length of that aluminum piece and just stick on the top of the aluminum piece.

That aluminum piece touches the glass when close, so with the weather strip, it will stop the dame noise.

Good luck, if you guys need pictures, let me know, I can take some and post it up, but like I said it is very easy to do.

OK that worked.

It is pretty easy. Just tilt your sunroof and go outside of your car and you will see it. Push down on it and you will see that it is spring loaded.

Now go back inside the car and push up on that peice, or just place weatherstrips on it from the outside.

Let me know if you still need help.

Except that's not the same roof as a pano roof on the C-coupe and this is what the thread is about. I assume the pano roof has different pieces, and this roof is known to squeak. I doubt the fix is the same, but hopefully it is.

Your coupe is an '03, is it not? If so, it has the revised roof rail system and I will be among those interested to hear what your dealer does.

Just an update for those with the pano-roof - the dealer finally "fixed" my squeaky sunroof. They said they called MB Tech Assistance and made a bunch of adjustments, but all I see is they really lubed up the rubber seal surrounding the roof - it is dripping with lube! Well, that seems to solve my problem - of course I don't know what the long-term (dirt?) implications are, but I am happy for now.

Just ran to my car to get the service sheet. I made a mistake in my previous reply-- it says "replaced sunroof bellows as per bulletin." I have no idea what that means!
