Lower lights in lower front grill not working, can't figure out how to turn them on??

Purchased a 2005 C240 4MATIC, front dash says right side marker light out, plan on replacing, no clue how to reset the dash so the message goes away after replacement of bulb. Even more frustrating question...
We have these lower front grill lights that I could only asssume help with driving. Can't get them to turn on? No clue what the head light control knob means?? Probably easy. One more thing, want to do an oil change, where the heck is the oil filter, do I need a special oil filter wrench? Thanks

Once you replace the sidemarker lamp the dash light will go out.

Fogs turn on by pulling out the knob & turning further clockwise for front fogs & front & rear fog.

The oil filter is front right of engine. Pull off airbox & front air pipes. Need to buy a large socket to remove. Only install a genuine Mann fleece filter.

Please read the owners manual. If you don't have one then download from MBUSA site.
Good luck!

Appreciate the response..
when you say pull the knob out, which knob would that be? the main headlight control knob?
Also, is the oil filter underneath the car? I have car ramps, you metioned a socket, like a cup socket where a 3/8 rachet locks into? I'm assuming 7 quarts will cover the oil and filter change? Thanks

Sorry - 2.26 in the morning this end. You don't even have to pull the airbox with the older cover.

LOL go read your owners manual before posting stupid questions. As glyn said make sure to use the proper oil filter as well as the 0w-40 European spec mobile1.

This knob - main light knob

Bigger filter shot

About 7.5 quarts will do it. Depends what you get out.

I see, you have to pull the knob out, than you select the option of turning on those lower street lights. Awesome photos and awesome answers. As far the dush bag commenting on my "stupid questions". No question is stupid and for those who think otherwise can't comprehend how people actually learn.

Well you do know that all of you questions are answered in the owners manual. But i guess if you are too lazy to read it why not just make other people give you the answers and just continue on being lazy. I did also help you i told you that you need to make sure that you get the proper oil to run the 10k mile service intervals the mobile1 0w-40 is easy to find. the reason i helped you with that is because that will not be in your manual. I will gladly help people who help themselves. Good luck with your car but unless you take the time to read the million and one threads that have the same exact questions you do don't expect to have much help. BTW there is a very good diy guide to do the oil change topside if you take the time to look.

Wow, I think it's best that you not help me because I'm too lazy. I would like to school you for a moment so sit, read and learn. People who bring their cars to a dealership for repairs are lazy. You are just so full of Mercedes knowledge that you are quickly irritated by people like myself just starting out. I'm taking a wild guess that you are not a teacher for your career? If you are I pitty your students. I agree though, reading is important, as I shall do to calm your nerves. You take care of yourself now and be sure to compliment my future questions with more of your rants.

The sad thing is that i love helping people learn more about there cars as long as they take the time to read about the car themselves first. I will also gladly help you if you have any questions that are not covered in the manual. Also please remember that tones of voice are not easy to get out of a forum i am not mad or trying to start an argument i was actually being funny i do admit that my tone was not easy to pick up on. Most of us on here have a very good sense of humor if you read a lot of our post you will start to notice it. if you stick around on here awhile you will see a thread just like this almost every day or more that clutters up our forum and keeps people from helping out others with new questions that have not been answered before. And your are correct i am not a teacher but i do end up teaching lots of people about stuff. I am sorry if i offended you i did not mean to stick around and you will see i am a very nice person. Ok well Good luck on your car make sure that you keep up with the maintenance (oil change, differentials, transmission, etc.) If you do your car will last forever very reliable powertrain.

Ok, I have a good question not covered in the OWNERS MANUAL!!
The rear window sunshade does not work. I am able to pull out the sunshade by hand but there is nothing for it to clip into? I tried to use the dashboard switch to move the sunshade but no dice. No clue on this one.
Also, after locking the doors I noticed I was still able to open the fuel lid? Not a big problem but it does not lock? I'm assuming it the lid should lock when the doors do?
Help Trey!!

I would say the rear sun shade is totally fed up. it is supposed to go up when you push the button obviously . I don't think it should go up by hand either. Honestly just leave it down they run about $300 on ebay from what i have seen. There is also a thread on here somewhere that tells you how to take it out so you could get a better look at it. You have to remove rear seats, c and f pillars as well as the parcel shelf so it will take a long time to do.

as for the fuel lid open the fuel lid and lock the doors do you see a metal pin pop out. if so then make sure the metal part of the door is going in to the black part and not bent to the left when closed.
If you need more guidance on the fuel door let me know and i will get you a picture.

I have no experience of the rear blind - all I know is they are trouble. Not fitted to SA production.

Yes the fuel flap should lock when you lock the car. Check that someone has not bent the catch tag with a hole in it that the pin locks into. Otherwise usually the pin/solenoid.

You guys were right, adjusted the thin metal catch plate hole and it lines up better and locks now. I think that will be an ongoing adjustment. The pin solenoid must be working because it pops open and closed, doesn't pop out alot but enough to poke into the FUEL door catch metal hole.
The rear headrest release button works, put the headrests up, started the car and pushed the dash release button and they all dropped when I pushed the button to drop them for a better rear window view... this car is really something else, understand I have been wrenching on cars for years foreign, domestic and european but never mercedes. I thought volvo was fun, this is a whole new world. My wife(it's her car boys, not mine) showed me tonight you can role down your windows and open your sunroof with the keychain fob!!!!!!!!! What the hell is goin on here?? This car is great, just in case anyone is wondering, please share with me your honest opinion, 2005 c240 4 matic, 72,000 original miles, no problems, 60 day warranty, I paid $11,500 that includes tax!! Was that a good deal? I love the car regardless, just wanted to ask the experts!! Thanks guys!

The price was not bad for a 4 matic that is so new. where are you located that can change the price a lot. ok another fun thing that should work on your car. put all windows down and sunroof opened. then hold the recirculate button and see what happens lol. so if this is not your car what is your car?
another warning for you make sure your front cv joints are ok you don't want to run them with torn boots it can get expensive.

presently have a 1997 subaru outback awd, do all maintenance myself, timing belt, seals, front axles replaced (torn boots), brakes, exhaust, alternator, you name it. 3rd car is a 91 chevy k1500 pickup 4x4 8ft bed. My fathers truck who passed away two years ago, completely restored, long long story, this truck it for my handyman business, live in newington, connecticut. 36 years old next week, have owned about twenty cars, wrenched on all of them, benz was a goal for many years, waited to pull the trigger, made the wife cry, she didn't even know I bought it, I will drive old 100k plus mileage cars forever, my wife, she gets the best, me, I could care less. Many tools, never have enough....

sounds like you will be able to take on a lot of the maintnece yourself. make sure to buy a good obd2 reader so you can read check engine lights. Thease cars have a lot of electronics in them so you might have to outsouce some of the work but the bascs are prety much like any other car. Sounds like you are a good husband you got her a very safe and reliable car good man. Sadly enough you are right too may people in this world are never satisfied with what they have. You will like that most of us regulars on here in the w203 section have are heads on right and plan to drive are cars into the ground. Don't go into the w204 section you will make lots of enimes lol.
