IR at Driver door to close / open all windows
I have this IR black square piece that is suppose to open / close all windows by using the remote key.
Apparently, I never got this to work.
I looked at this area for a long time and tried numerous times to see if i can get this function to work. A lot of people reported it works sometimes or some reported it doesn't work at all.
Well, here is a picture of my ir black square port. To me, this doesn't look like an IR port. An IR port should look something like the ignition port in the center. That is an IR port and of course that works or how else do we start our cars.
Well, can some of you who are are able to use this function confirm if this is the same with my picture?
I have a feeling this might be an option or package to go with something that was not purchase with my car.

Mine only worked half the time on the passenger side, and all the time on the driver side. I had to be within a close radius, though.
Edit: Also, you have to point directly at it. It's pretty finicky.

Can someone verify if my picture matches on your car?

Those are ir sensors. My 01 has one on each front door. And has always worked fine up to like 15 feet or so. They removed the passenger side in like 03 or 04 to save money.

They decontented and didn't keep the passenger side one in later years.
Yes, you have an IR port. Yes, they are constantly on the rag. Most people just give up eventually instead of finding the combination of location/pointing at a particular point on the handle to get them to work.
You can replace the port.

very finicky! great if you're standing outside your car talking to someone and want to open the windows, otherwise you look stupid trying to do it stood still a few feet away just before you get in. Pretty wasteful!

Well, I still think the RF to open and close the windows is a better option.

I have to aim it directly at the IR port and from inches away and it doesn't always work on the first try, sometimes stops in the middle of window travel, etc. My IR port was replaced under warranty. This feature is essentially for show, but I do use it now and then if I'm out of the car with people and a window or the sunroof is not fully closed.
It's just very flaky.

Yea. I know. I wonder why they don't take notice of other brand cars. They have the alarm RF and not the IR to open the windows. That way you can open the windows or close the window from a distance. I know they are in for saftey, but how about if you were away and notice the windows wasn't close but too far away. It will be good for RF distance but not IR distance.

you can have them replaced! pretty simple.. the driver side cost about $150 i think.. the right side if you have it is way cheaper..
Or you can clean it with some Alcohol.. wax and stuff something block the signal

ya man has a mind of its own...some days it works. others it doesnt. Usually I just end up unlocking my car over and over again until it works. And I usually have to be w/in 6" not 6' lol...

thankyou 04mbc230 for posting this, didn't even know I had this on my car.
I just stepped outside and checked out mine. and it works but ofcourse not from great distance.
You have unlock first and then hold the unlock button for how much you want the windows to open, say you just want it half open just hold the button and release the button once it has recahed the half way mark. Do the same for lockup.
really cool function.........next will the distance test..........will be really helpfull in hot weather days to release all the trapped hot air as you approach the car..........

PS: love the smilies......

You can't reset it - taking out the battery has no effect on it. (as far as I know)
I'll still recommend the mods4cars module, which you place underneath your driver's side carpet. Converts the windows/sunroof function to RF. Works like a charm, from clear across a parking lot. On the coupe, you hit unlock three times, it tilts the sunroof - hit it again, and both windows open and the sunroof goes all the way back. Hit lock twice, and everything closes. Sedan is even easier, I believe - hit unlock three times, and everything opens, hit lock twice, and it closes everything.
Best gadget I've got in my car by far. Most importantly, you don't look like a deusche by the side of the car, holding the key right next to the IR receiver, hoping it works.
