I've had the same problem with my ML500. What is part 135 and can I fix this myself? When I pulled out the "hand" part of the release, it came completely off. The release cable is intact and works to release the emergency brake. But obviously this doesn't look very nice.

Benz call it a stop with a pin. Is the nipple still on the end of the cable in your ML? Is there any sign of damage on the "handle"

No damage to handle & nipple is still on the end of the cable. Everything works--I can release the brake by pulling on the cable but when I insert the cable into the slot on the handle there is not the usual tension to pull back & hold the handle. It just falls out of its slot in the lower dash.

Wow how timely. I always seem to have the same problems as everyone else.
My parking brake pedal no longer offers any resistance, and it appears that the 170 cable has fully disengaged from the junction near the 180. How does a healthy parking brake 170 cable attach to the pedal? All i have is a nub of metal cable near the 180 attachment point.

I looked at my car again and compared it to a picture of a good 170 cable. The end that allows it to attach to the parking pedal has broken.
Does anyone have a DIY for this? I've done the parking brake adjustment before. Will this just be a matter of fishing the cable out via the access point under the back seats?
Thanks.

Yes - that's actually why I asked whether the handle was damaged. Sounds like the return spring is dislocated or broken on some of these vehicles.

I too had that problem a while back & it was a pain to make the ball at the end of the wire stay in the slot & for the wire to fully fall in place without coming back out.
But if that did happen it's not that difficult to do. More difficult to get inside. If the release handle broke, it's nothing to really worry about either. Just replace & hook it back in.

So this thread seems to have ended, but I am having the same problem and I can't get the ball at the end of the cable to stay in the slot. Does "135" or some other part hold the cable in place?
