Ticking noise coming from engine ?
My wifes c-240 4matic every time i get in the car i hear a light ticking noise and it's not coming from the heater blower. It' has to be engine noise the car only has 2,000 miles but it's made that noise since new. Is that the sound of this 2.6 motor ?????? do any of you have this same noise????? please respond I really do not want to visit the dealer for nothing...Thanks Guy's

My car does the same, its a 2003 C240 (4 month old)but not 4matic though..
It sounds a bit unusual, cause i didnt have this problem on the 2002 C320. Thank god, im not the only one now

I am going to check with some mb tech's I know tomorrow I'll let you guy's know what i find out, and maybe you can do the same .

Well my C240 2002 model dose the same
& every time am taking it to the agent they are saying its normal but i found this ticking increased while am turning the steering left or right while driving.. but after i complete 15.000 KM that thicking left without reason and now its OK...

2003 C240
I have a 2003 C240 and I also had the ticking problem. I already took it in at 2000 km and the dealer acknowledged the sound but couldn't find anything wrong. I now have 12000 km and the sound is still there.

Ticking Noise Solved
spoke to my benz dealer the purge valve it is, what they said they have tried to do is insulate it to reduce the noise. I guess you guy's were right. thanks for the info..........

all the posts complain about the ticking noise it makes, but i haven't found an answer as to what it does yet.
btw, 41 threads about the purge valve (i.e. the ticking noise)! can they all be assimilated?

after some googling, i think the purpose of the purge valve is to evacuate any fuel vapors from the gas tank and burn them in the engine.

Engine speed?
Does the ticking sound you are experiencing increase with engine speed? Mine does. Sounds like a ticking lifter. Stays no matter engine speed or temperature. I have found no cure.
