Instrument cluster will not come out...need help

I already read all the write-ups on the removal procedure however it is still not coming out no matter what I do. When I insert my home made hanger tool I do not feel any kind of resistance 2.5 inches or more after inserting it. Can the clips inside be broken? Does anyone have a picture of the actual clips holding the cluster into place? I want to replace my screen since it went out...Thanks in advance for any help

did you put bends in at the end of the pieces of hanger? the clips need to be lifted up from the part they're holding onto and the bends help you grab the back of the cluster so you can pull it out from the hanger...just keep trying it'll come out...

and its not broken otherwise it wouldnt lock to begin with and it would be easier to get out.

I've been trying for 3 days now...not coming out. I have made the beds with exact measurements from the OEM tool. I don't really know what else to do...a pic would prob help me figure out what the hell is going on in there

its deeper than that.. just push in until you feel resistance and twist, then pull the cluster with your hands at the same time.

I tried ...no resistance at all. Can the clip get stuck or broken?

umm doubtful that it would. Make sure when you put it in your not going in at an angle thats away from the cluster. Try going back and a little towards the cluster.

Thanks for posting those pictures.
What is the purpose of the 'hook' in the wire?

so you can lock the pin in place and use it to pull out the cluster while keeping the clip back.

got it. I just tried and was able to pull out the cluster.

I used 1 piece (straight piece) of coat hanger to PUSH that clip, while pushing that wire, I used the second wire with a hook on the outer skin to PULL the cluster out.

Thanks guys.

djdiplomat, sorry I hijacked your thread. Hope you are able to get the cluster out.

Just buy the tools on ebay next time; hell of a lot easier, and worth the minor amount of money.

Tried it again....still no luck. When pushing that clip up what exactly are you releasing? I don't see how that holds the cluster in. I do not feel any resistance on any kind and no matter how far I insert the wire nothing wants to release. Something so simple is giving me so much pain.

See that nub on the bottom of the clip? I believe when you push on the big clip with the tool, it raises that lower nub/clip. Not positive, but I think that is what holds it in.

You're going in as straight as possible right? If you angle it, it'll shoot right out of that track. The rod that I use is a tight fit, so once it's pushed back, I can let go of it and then grab the bottom of the cluster and give it a tug.

that is funny.

On my c230 does not do that. I can't pull it out with just a straight wire. I have to do a L hook then turn it to unlatch to pull out.

I think perhaps c32 is a different cluster than a c230.

Did you check out my post about changing out cluster?

Yes I just checked it out. I tried doing it again just now and still nothing...I get no resistance at all the wire just goes in all the way until it hits the back side if the cluster I guess. I tried "fishing" for the clamp while inserting the wire a little bit at a time...still nothing. I yanked on it pretty damn hard and nothing happens. Any other ideas?
