"boing" sound from rear when turning
First post. this site is great. just got a 2001 C240. had the endlinks replaced from great info on this site. front suspension sounds good.
Problem is occasionally I get a "boing" sound from the rear right side when turning. Not necessarily over a bump or anything, just turning. Can't really replicate it when I want to, just happens.
Not lowered (yet), just stock.
Any pointers on what this might be or what to look for?

I guess so. maybe like a spring or like pulling a guitar string once while holding down the string so it does not continue to vibrate. hard to explain, I guess more like a spring sound "like a jack-in-the-box" opening.
haha. I hope that helps you guys help me.
First thing that came to mind was rear springs but I am riding on stock suspension. Have not done anything to it. thought maybe there was a common problem out there.

Well, the first thing that came to your mind may be right. I had a similar experience with my W203 (2001 MY). Every so often (but not always) I would have a sound in the rear of the car when going over bumps that I thought was the trunk lid spring getting smacked with something, think, a spring with tension on it, and striking it with a metal rod. Anyways, had my car in for service right before inspection one year and come to find out that BOTH of my rear springs were broke. I went with aftermarket springs (H&R) as replacements, but both of my springs were broken in almost the exact same place, about 3 to 4 inches in from the end of the bottom coil. It was somewhat hard to see by just looking, but was quite apparent as soon as I popped out the rear springs. I would check there and see the condition of your rear coil springs, at the bottom of them in the spring perch. I have a feeling that the little drain hole in there gets blocked up with debris and fills with water, from there, probably corrodes the bottom of that spring.

That is strange that a spring would break. wouldn't the whole setup on that side just fall apart? I mean the spring is under pressure/tension right? I have never heard of a spring breaking before this forum and this is about my tenth car/forum club. I will check it out. Thanks.
I did think about the trunk spring too but definitely coming from the underside suspension.
Will keep you posted on the progress. Hope it is not a broken spring. will force me to spend money on coilovers.haha.

Thanks for all the great info. Having the car looked at this week coming up. Will keep posted. Hopefully it's just the springs, sounds like it would be an easy fix.

Broken springs it is!....opportunity for TEIN basics!!
Thanks all! I ended up having broken rear springs. about a 3-4 inch broken off on each side. What an opportunity to upgrade! This is the first time I have been somewhat happy to have a problem with a car.
I opted to order TEIN basics and had them installed today. No point to spend money to replace a broken OEM spring when I can replace the whole set. haha.
Anyways, thanks for all the great info and I am very happy with the ride quality and ride height with the TEIN so far...(only 1 day). Will post pics when I get wheels in the spring. can't be lowered without wheels right?
