Thanks for all your help it is greatly appreciated. Would you know if the chains have to come off or can the guts be changed out? Seems there is easy access to the actuators without removing the entire valve cover via a front cover.

hey Glyn!
I'm afraid i have the same problem.. fault codes P0016; P0017
I've ridden almost all posts about these issue and it's clear for me that i'm in trouble (as i have no any waranty and i'll have to pay for repairs) becouse of my impressive C230 V6 2.5L 2007. The thing is, I bought my car in USA on auction and it was delivered 2 weeks ago with CHECK ENGINE light on; yes, "i'm lucky" ..
by the way, i live in Batumi, Georgia, near Black Sea.
But, now my only question is - Where can i buy this kit with a cheapest price??? can you please advise? help please please...
With best regards!

I didn't verify your part number but have always found for actual MB parts http://www.genuinemercedesparts.com has the best price and their staff is very accommodating. Your part is about $330
Edit: and I just saw this forum sponsor has it for $316 http://mymercedesparts.com
I myself always have a problem with shipping costs to Hawaii

anyways, hawaii great place..
As i was explained it's much better/cheaper to buy full set, than to buy separately, as the cost goes too high.
thank you again for your assistance. your web-pages are helpful! i did not see them before.

Miro,
I looked at that russian site (the url you gave is not correct) -- and verified the part #s are correct for your car VIN.
http://www.drive2.ru/users/zark/blog/637403/ translated here -- http://translate.google.com/translat...og%2F637403%2F
Attached is also the part #s for the chain and dampers as well that were not listed. If this is in fact what your problem is good luck! That is quite a lot of work

Maybe you can narrow things down a little more for me. I had some time this weekend and removed the front cover to expose the actuators. Using instructions from my WIS I checked the cam alignment with the engine at 40 degrees and all the marks line up perfectly. Could this be more indications that my exhaust actuator is failing or does this exclude that scenario?
I am thinking the the actuator works as kind of a hydraulic clutch and is not engaging properly, therein giving me my problem??
Thanks for any suggestions, Joe

2006 CLK 350 Convertible
So my wife and I purchased a 2006 CLK 350 Cabriolet in 2010, at the time, the car only had 12,000 miles and 1 previous owner.
Now it only has 22,000 miles on it and the check engine light came on. We took it to a specialist on the island who told us it has
1200 Constant Adjustment of exhaust camshaft of right cylinder bank in direction "Retarded" (P0017)
1208 Constant Adjustment of intake camshaft of right cylinder bank in direction "Retarded" (P0016)
So we took it to the dealership and they confirmed, this is the problem. Estimate to repair was right at $7,000! On a car that only has 22,000 effin miles on it!
Does anyone know if it's possible to get Mercedes USA to pay for the repairs? Of course since it's out of warranty the local dealer won't, but 22,000 miles!!! That's ridiculous!
Thanks,
I've been reading the Mercedes forums about this error, and found this one.
Is there any way for us to force Mercedes to pay for the repair?
Does anyone know if the class action lawsuit had any effect?

Unless you bought the car new I doubt you will have much luck with a goodwill and as it looks like it was out of mfg warranty when you bought it that doesn't help. I never heard anything materialize with the class action. Really you just have to find a good indy shop and suck it up. This is honestly the worst part about owning/buying any car out of warranty when stuff happens its on you and your piggyback. GL with car though I don't know how many MB indys you guys have in Hawaii.

Code 0016
Ok been reading for awhile, have been, before buying Benz. Went to autozone code 0016 is set. The Modius we have does not have MB in it. I'm worried I did by a car with the cam issue. I do have the MB certified warranty, I'm going to call the USA MB line Monday.
Notices: I was sitting in car one day warming up, and vehicle showed no EL but ran rough low idle two three times separately, also have noticed once in awhile more often now it sounds like a diesel in front area lightly sounding.
With this light on is the start of the dreaded magnets issue I've been reading about?
Advice welcome

If you get single codes you usually just have to replace the cam sensor magnets. If you get a 16 & 17 together then you definitely have the balance shaft sprocket problem.
Post your VIN on the W209 forum. Rudeney has a listing of affected VIN's

07 ml350
first time here. I need help from anyone who could possibly help. I bought 2007 ml350 a little over 2 years ago certified pre-owned from Mercedes. I just paid it off. It originally had 136k miles now it have 159k. The check engine light been on for months now but when I originally checked it was just sensor (p0016&p0017). I went to value it for trade in at Lexus yesterday and was valued at $3k!! I took it to Mercedes paid for diagnostic $150. They came back to tell me I need $10,100 to fix it!!! It hit me hard. I just finished paying it $15k now I have to fix it for $10k?? They said it's the balance shaft. They didn't label the parts only the entire work amount. He's like I can drop few hundreds but that's about it. Now that I'm aware of the law suit is there anything I can do about it. I'm guessing my model is the M272 or 273 engine. Please help.

2006 C230 Sport (traded in for a Tesla Model 3)
So now my 2006 C230 Sport, at 103K miles, seems to have the balance shaft issue. Apparently MB extended the warranty 10 years as part of the settlement from the class action suit, but that expired two years ago. So what do I do now? Suck up and spend $6K on a car that is only worth $3k fixed? Try to sell it outside of California as a 'mechanics special'? Or just haul an otherwise nice car over to the Pick N Pull for scrap? (Hopefully Elon gets around to making my Model 3 Real Soon Now. I'm really done with internal combustion cars...)
