How do I find out what MB really sells a car for?

So, I know the trick of looking at invoice, and subtracting 2 to 3% for hold back, but that is not accurrate because www.carsdirect.com is selling SLKs for $2000 below invoice.

Any ideas.

tia,

Beth

Carsdirect's fee is probably about $500. So, I suspect that if you subtract $500 from the Carsdirect #, you are pretty close to the BFM a dealer will sell for.

Thanks! I bought my c-class for $1,500 below the www.carsdirect.com price. I think they are making aleast a grand. $500 is not a big enough mark-up I think for carsdirect.

I'm negociating directly with MB actually and I'm trying to figure out if it's cheaper for them to give me an SLK or the money back for my c-class. I don't think MB will want to do me any favors, but I do think they would like to do what is cheaper for them.

We'll see what they offer next week.

Lynn,

OK, that is what I would think too, however, carsdirect has the SLK for $36.200. Now MB has a mark-up, the dealer has a mark-up, and Carsdirect has a mark-up. So, I would it costs MB high 20s to make this car.

I would get about $31,000, so that is why I'm not sure. That's all.

While and SLK would be great, my money back works for me. So, either way, I'm fine.

Thanks

Beth

Beth, even at that price which I doubt you would get because most SLK230's have other options like power seats, but assuming you paid 36,200, after taxes it would be 40K, a stretch from 31K but you are entitled to not only a refund on the car but also the registration fees and sales tax. Sometimes in court you can win punitive damages for their arrogance up to the value of the car (that's the limit in the lemon law). Besides, they don't want to cut you any break, they hate you, you are the enemy, if they sell you another car you may sue them again. It's best that you tell them that you will by another MB at any cost just so you have a chance of doing this again next year, tell them you enjoy it!!!! In my lemon law case I was not reward a refund but a replacement car and Infiniti refused because they were all sold out of 1997 models and only had 1998 and even though they were the same price they didn't want to do it, they rather cash me out and that was my preference also so it worked out.

Beth,
As a former Benz employee, I'd be shocked if they gave you an SLK (they don't give ANYTHING up that they don't have to).

Thanks for the responces!

Well, you can't blame me for trying. I know they are the enemy and I have to say, I have very mixed feelings about buying another MB. I think a car that works is a good car, and after two bad German cars a Honda or Toyota is looking pretty good, they just are not very fun.

The only reason I bought this up, is if they give me a replacement car, then I don't pay tax on my next car. But my money backs works for me. I fulluy understand they are not my friend.

It will be an interesting conversation on Friday, MB does not act rationally. My lawyer offered them a deal to settle the case and they did not. It's odd, because it was in their economic interest to settle the case. It would have cost them less money.

We'll see what happens. Meanwhile car shopping has been pretty fun. I test drove a Saab yesterday and I really liked it. Shifts much better than a MB. It's pretty fun when I start talking about the engine, hp and torque. It kinda takes the sales guys by suprise. They want to talk about color. lol.

Cheers,

Beth

ok the C is out, you might give the Volvo S60 a try, have had mine for two years and no problems. Except for front wheel drive, the car is great, best stock sound system and the seats can not be beat. MB needs to learn about seats, I have yet to hear anyone that likes them. I will always have a Volvo.

I know they're everywhere but a 3-series is nice

I've owned 2 BMWS in a row and I must say than other than minor rattles and the such, they've been awesome cars.
