So the cls55 I saw today had the twin sliding caliper. So I'm really digging them. What would be needed to achieve putting them on a w203. I'm just wondering, I assume 17s would be too small to have them fit but I might be wrong.

They look sooo bad a$$

those barely fits in 18" and they won't work. it's not just the bracket for the caliper needs to be custom fitted. the rotors also need to be custom fitted.

any BBK bigger than the C32/55's 335mm setup will need 18".

He's going to use those on the rear

I have to agree with you Karo, the big industrial strength S Classe ones aren't pretty, but I bet they'd bring a C230 down from 120 is a heart beat! I'm guessing that you'd need at LEAST 19" wheels to clear those big boys, and there is going to be some bracket fabbing to do. Doable though, and very unique!

they probably stops worst because of the extra weight of the caliper and rotor...

OK, something was bugging me, and now I've sorted it out. Those calipers are from a C65, not a CLS55. Also, the stock wheels on the C65 are 20" so you could probably make it happen, but it would be a PITA. Last and certainly not least, they look heavy!

What's up with those notches on the rotor? Those aren't some kind of tone rings for the ABS are they?

Actually they were on the cls55/65 and s65/55 models Mike.

Guys I'm not going to do it lol I got baby 17s on my car. I'd probably get C32 calipers, brembo, or stoptech bbk when I plan on upgrading. They just really popped when I saw the double AMG poking through the spokes on the road.

They certainly look like it, but tone rings are usually somewhat protected. Also, after looking a little deeper into the specs of these brakes I have to stand by my previous conviction that the stopping power of these would be tremendous. They are a little heavier, but they aren't ridiculously heavy, and the design makes brake fade almost non-existent. On a car that weighs half what the S63 does it should be an impressive amount of bite.

I still don't think they look good.

Agreed, they generally are more protected, plus those notches are much too big to give quick enough pulses for modern ABS. After closer look of the pics and the pics in the article Phi posted, I think those are there because the hat and friction surface are 2 piece, and they use a type of spanner tool to tighten the 2 pieces together, just a guess

I imagine the stopping power would be great, and the weight would only be a little heavier, since they are composite rotors and aluminum hats. Way overkill for a C-class though

WAY OVERKILL! I'll bet they are there for heat dissipation or looks. They wouldn't use that type of connection for a two piece rotor, then again they may actually screw on to the spindle. Of course this is all conjecture, but it's a really innovative design! How long until they make a brake caliper that goes all the way around the rotor and pulses one set of pads at a time. I can see unlimited potential for this technology.

I'm not really talking about increased stopping power, but making brake fade a thing of the past! There is some real benefit there, I personally would love to not have my brakes fading while I'm coming down a mountain pass.
