Dear Ms. ******
I understand your concern. The issue doesn't affect model year 2005 so the vehicle isn't included.
Sincerely,
Robyn

I typed an email similar to this:
"i just typed a short letter with the campaign number and my VIN. Then i just explained how the 2005 was the last year for the m271 in the US market and it was unchanged from 2004. Since 2004 will have this same problem and the part numbers are identical, the 2005 should be added to the campaign. ."
You should try it again. They know it's a problem. Don't let it rest. Good Luck

MBUSA response...
I called MBUSA today and referred to this work order, "Carl" stated that MB will not include my car in this campaign if it is not leaking already..I told him others with 05 models are getting this taken care of for them, why can't I? He said they will document my concern and when mine starts leaking they will consider it...

That would be easy to verify. Pull the electrical connectors on the cam sensors and take a look. You can also look at the ecu plugs on the side of the intake tube. I discovered my leak after a "CEL" illuminated. Refer to the threads for where to look, take pictures and send them in if you have too. If it hasn't started leaking, it will eventually. Good Luck

So, I guess I'm good then, thanks Susan C! Hey guys, I don't really know what you all wrote in your emails but I made sure to include that I loved my car, but would not buy another Benz without this recall extended to my car.

Yep just scheduled it with the local dealer, Rassmusen in Portland Oregon. The lady said it would only take 2-3 hours, is this common? She couldn't verify what all parts were included in the repair, just that it was the "cam solenoid recall." I'm only wondering because I actually live 1.5 hours away from the dealership and would like to plan for it if it is an all day repair vs. a 2-3 hour repair... The lady was not a SA, just a scheduler...

Which department are you writing the letters to?
We need to start a similar program here in Canada
Does anyone have the exact details and the program number so that I can include in the letter?

My guess is that you will need to contact mb canada and explain the situation politely. Hopefully they will include canadian cars in the recall since the defective parts are the exact same part number. Good luck

I'm sorry to disagree, but other 2005 C230 owners I have contacted had this issue covered recently under this campaign...

I see that you sent the email to "retail issues"
I would send one to the tech/warranty link as they would be more knowledgeable about this situation and the specifics. Retail has nothing to do with recalls. They probably just type in your vin and see what the computer tells them.
Not Robyns fault, just not her area. Others who got this covered emailed the tech/warranty link

FYI
I emailed MBUSA about this and they called me at my office this morning. They were not going to include my 2005 230K in the campaign. She admitted that some 2005s had been covered. She said that my case - if I ever brought one up (I'm not experiencing any leaking, yet) - would be considered then (2005s are considered on a case by case basis) and that my VIN was one that was not covered - possibly because my car could have improved parts and thus wouldn't need to be covered (or possibly because I didn't make a big enough stink!).
I guess the my next move is to install the isolation wires.

I checked the "tech issues/warranty" box before submitting it. Said basically that my wife and I loved the car, but would not buy another MB if they wouldn't include it in the recall because it is well documented that the 2005s have the exact same issue because they have the exact same parts and systems as the 2004. I was a bit more eloquent than that but thats the jist of it. If I was denied I was planning on at least installing the isolation wires for good measure, and keep the receipt just in case MB later was to include all 2005s in the open campaign.
Some other pertinent info: I am not the original owner, nor have I ever purchased a MB from the dealership, so that has nothing to do with my being approved. It seems to me that if you are lucky enough to have your request by the right person (seems like "Maria" is that person), then you will have the campaign extended to you. Its not right, because its a problem that needs to be properly managed by MB with the only outcome being a total sweep of the 2005s into the campaign, but it is what it is...
Canadians - I would say that you guys are screwed either way. I would never buy an MB if I was Canadian, hands down, just because the lack of support and the hardship you have to go through to get a fair shake from MB. I guess you can try, but if after 6 years you can't even get the 2003s-2004s recognized... fat chance you'll get your 2005s recognized...
Good luck all

Since MB Canada are being jerks about this and turning a blind eye to the situation south of the border. Here is my question regarding the cam sensors:
Fix #1 Buy and attach the isolation wires to the cam sensor $43 for the part, does not stop the leaking but stops the migration.
Fix #2 Buy and install the cam sensor magnet $54 for the part. We know that it is good for about 50,000mi or more and assume that the new part has solved the leaking issue. My car will be replaced within that 50,000 extra miles
I am thinking that Fix #2 is the better repair as it stops the issue at the source.
MB Canada should be ashamed of themselves for pretending that this issue does not exist with M271 engines. I am thinking that should any Canadians have experienced significant damage to the electrical because of this issue, the recall in the US just made their case in small claims court a slam dunk.
