From first post of thread:
When installing these new cam sensors (Mercedes part# 271-051-01-77) with three screws requiring 8mm inverted torx socket,.... would anyone know the proper torque specifications for these 3 screws? (ft-lbs or Nm)
Thanks.
Thanks.

Thank you, I had the $12 hose done under recall few months ago and they said that was the only one, hopefully things changed. I will give them a call and if nothing I will do what you did

If the campaign has been extended, this is very good news for the 2005 owners. I would expect that Mercedes will reimburse owners who have had expenses related to this failure. I am contacting MB on my car and we'll see what happens. I would actually be satisfied if they just reimbursed me for the parts I bought.
My car is still running great, and have seen only trace amounts of oil since the new parts installed.

They didnt have my car under the open recall for the leaky cam sensor at fletcher jones Newport Beach, CA. Gonna go down to the dealership today and talk to the service advisor and see if he can help me out over and above what the database states.

The dealer cannot add your car to the recall, but mercedes benz will

Ok so I emailed MB USA through the side provided on this thread on tuesday and still have not gotten a call or reply from anyone. For the select your topic part i left it checked on retail questions or issues, idk if that makes a diff about who received the email?

well with the holidays i am not surprised.

retail would be if you were buying a new car or had issues/questions relating to the purchase/process.
but just as was stated, i am sure the holidays are playing a part and you may not hear back until after new years

yeah, im giving myself till first week of jan. hopefully i hear something from them by then. Otherwise I just might have to do a DIY unless u guys can suggest another plan of action with MBUSA.

I did do the DIY with the isolation wires before my car became qualified for the recall. I figured the investment in the isolation wires was worth it vs. the loss of the sensors or other electrical components. As it turns out I never did develop the leak, but at least I knew that if I did it would not be a huge issue. Good luck to the folks with the '05s in the hopes that MB will step up and provide coverage.

Great info! I've had this issue intermittently with my '02. Dealer in Tampa replaced control unit, cable harness, air mass sensor, sender unit, and magnet under extended warranty I had at the time (Feb '08). Would have cost $2800.
During oil chg/B insp at dealer in Raleigh (Jun '08), they advised that CAS was leaking but covered under campaign 2009100001. Replaced solenoid, plug, starter line, cable tie, seal ring, harness.
I just noticed spot on gar floor. My suspicions are this may be the culprit again.

Still can't understand why 60,000 cars south of the border with the M271 engine are being recalled for an obvious cam sensor leaking problem yet here Mercedes Canada is turning a blind eye. Our cars are no different. This reminds me of the cracking plastic pipe problem with the supercharger and while initially MB Canada said there was no issue with the part they finally did a recall albeit a year and half after the US one.
Maybe MB Canada is hoping that if they wait long enough our cars will have rusted away and been scrapped so that they only have to do a few cars

just dropped off my car to the dealership for the campaign
not to sound too greedy or anything, but do you think they will switch out my front o2 sensors too which more than likely went bad because of the cam sensor. I know the o2 sensors go bad at 50k and that is when mine was replaced. which is only 5-6k miles ago. It couldnt be wear and tear. Most likely the oil that came down the wiring harness. what do you guys think?
Will be picking up my car tomorrow with new cam senors. woot!
thanks guys
