Wheel Warranty Yes or No

The dealer offered me a wheel warranty for 18 hundred somthing dollars that protects against road hazzards. I was wondering if I should go back up there and get it or should i explore other means?

How often do these tires get damaged? Is there another good wheel warranty company out there?

If I choose to sell them, How much do you think i can get for brand new premium stock wheels and tires?

1800??? I would pass on those...even if it was 500 I still would pass on those.

+1 on what Karo said.
1800 is a ridiculously obscene amount. Those wheels/tires will last a while and are structurally sound; there's no need for a warranty, let alone one that expensive. As for selling them.. good luck. I had to drop well below 600 to move them(well below their worth), maybe you'll fare better.

i saw a pair of those on craigslist for $400.00 and if you search in the Redding area there was a set last week for $300 without tires.

I was thinking that there may be a wheel company or place i can purchase wheels and actually get a road hazard warranty?

$1800? Wow, that's a new one for me. Does the dealer have a boat payment due?

Please remember extended warranties (of any kind) are profit-makers for the dealership. So you are effectively betting against the house in Las Vegas. Incidentally, I was quoted around $500 for three years protection on the wheels and rims. I declined.

well the deal included free tire and rim replacements for 5 years under any road hazard with dealer or aftermarket wheels on the car. i remember with low pros, i could never keep bubbles out of my tires more than 2 months. im certain ill damage my tires soon... ill just replace them at discount/americas tire co and get their road hazard. but i also have a tendency to damage wheels. im concerned.

Find who does wheel repair and refinishing in your area. You can get curb rash fixed, or even a full refinish pretty cheap. If it wasn't a perfect match you could even get all four refinished several times and be cheaper. I think just do it when you need it.

All just BS to make money out of you.

Helped some aging friends in Dallas earlier this year to buy a new Accord. We just said NO to everything above base price. Dealer was not happy.

Whether to buy this insurance product depends on where you live. I drive in NY City metropolitan area and in Michigan a lot. Huge and nasty potholes in bothplaces.

I bought that insurance with my car in 2007. I have had a cracked wheel replaced and 3 front right tires all for free under this program.

But big caveat is my insurance cost around $480.00 in 2007.

my advice is to put that money $1800 in an interest bearing money market account. When you blow a wheel or tire/withdraw money and pay for it. If none of the wheels/tires needed to be replaced/repaired, then you get to keep all that money. At the end of the warranty period, if that $1800 is still in the account, go buy an oz of gold and hang it on the rear view mirror :-)

I second that. 1800? No way. You can get a nice 18 or 19in setup for a bit more if not the same price.
