Thank You MB world

This forum has been so helpful and informative.
By reading the forum, i found out about the dreaded cam sensor leak problem and the recall campaign for all 2002-2004. I also found out that all the part numbers are the same as the 05, and this will have the same issues.

When i got a check engine light and checked the connectors, i saw oil just as i had feared. Anyway, since i did not feel it was right that i would have to buy these parts just because my c230 was a 2005, i emailed mbusa.

In a polite email i explained how the 2005 engine was identical to the 2004 and it should be included in this recall. a couple days later i received a call from a very nice lady at Mercedes Benz. She apologized and not only added my car to the campaign, but also contacted my local dealership for the appointment to have it fixed.

The recall was performed today, no questions asked.
I am not sure if the campaign is updated yet to include all 2005 c230s, but i am sure it will be shortly.

Awesome! thanks. Which dealership did you go to? And what should we tell the dealership to get the work done? I have a feeling that the dealership close to me might not be as nice as yours was. lol.

If possible, could you share the letter you wrote? It obviously worked and maybe some of us can use it also.

Thanks!

well here is where i emailed them from: http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/contact_us/owners

i emailed on a friday, and received a call on monday. the lady from MB was very helpful.

i just typed a short letter with the campaign number and my VIN. Then i just explained how the 2005 was the last year for the m271 in the US market and it was unchanged from 2004. Since 2004 will have this same problem and the part numbers are identical, the 2005 should be added to the campaign.

She agreed and added my VIN to the campaign immediately since she wanted to get me an appointment with my dealer right away. I assume all 2005s will be added shortly, but if you want this done sooner, click the link. Just give them your info and the recall number. Also include a the information that i stated.

I am sure they will be helpful. The customer service was so helpful that i will definitely stick with MB in the future. When i was having trouble with my ford explorer a few years back, for was not nearly as helpful or courteous.

Well there are two MB dealers about equal distance from me, so i just picked one. All i told the dealer was that there was a recall campaign on my car and they looked up the VIN. this was after i talked with the lady at MB and she added it.

They didnt have my car under the open recall for the leaky cam sensor at fletcher jones Newport Beach, CA. Gonna go down to the dealership today and talk to the service advisor and see if he can help me out over and above what the database states.

The dealer won't be able to add your car to the recall. I went through this. That is why I contacted mbusa directly through their website

TIA

Edit: is this it? Campaign # 2009100001

This is very strange. I saw a sticky about this. I just called my local dealer and asked and BLAMO! they did this recall on my w203 with no questions asked. That sucks that all you guys are having to go through this trouble. I got my recall work done before I had an issue with the cam sensor. I guess I was just lucky.

My dealer here in hawaii did my '05 no questions asked. They even replaced both o2 sensors under warranty as the oil leak had damaged them as well!

it looks like they probably updated the campaign to include all M271 cars.

Hi, my name is Carlos Marrero and I am writing to you from Spain.

Could you send a copy of the invoice receipt that you posted on the forum concerning the recall of your vehicle and repairs made re Campaign # 2009100001? The copy on the forum is not clear enough, and I would like a better copy to show to my dealer in Spain. Do you know of any client of MB who has received a recall letter from their dealer re this campaign? I could do with a copy of this. Your kind attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated by me here in Spain. I thank you in advance for your time. Kind regards, Carlos.

2002-2004 C230 camsensor recall

Hi guys,
I have the same problem on my 2003 C230 cam sensor oil leak. I went to mb winnipeg recently to have It checked and told them about the recall for the said problem. They checked my car vin number on their computers and return back to me and told me that my vin number is not included on the recall. How did that happen that not all 2002-2004 C230 are not entitled for the recall?
