automatic sound levels based on speed?
Someone mentioned before that they found this feature a bit annoying in their C230. Is it an option on the stock radio and Bose? And can you turn it off?

Do you have your car yet? Have you heard this feature? I might be in the minority, but I really like it.

I don't know if this feature is on the base radio. On the Bose there are 4 settings; 0 db, -3 db, -6 db, and -9 db. O db is the off position and -9 produces the greatest change. Default is -6. A tech must use the DAS computer to change the settings. You can't do it yourself.

I do not have the Bose option, but I do have the automatic sound level based on speed option on the standard stereo.

It also on the basic stereo system. it feels like the volume just jumps up when I hit certain speed. I liked the speed sensitive volume control on the BMW Z3 and it really helps when the top was down.
Maybe the computer should only adjust the volume is it detects either the roof, windows are open or not. And adjust accordingly to speed and how wide the roof and windows are opened.

Does anyone know where these settings are located on the DAS? Is it a "Norway" setting? My service adviser had no idea what I was talking about. I'd like them to set it to -3db.

as for where, i'm sorry, i've forgotten where but it is not a hidden type of setting like the Norway setting. maybe another technician at your dealership knows? mine knew where it was, but he didn't know where the fuel settings were at so i think it is a spotty knowledge type of thing.

My car is currently at the LA VPC and should be here by the end of next week! I'm getting C5, so I'll have both Bose and the roof. It says in the brochure that the "Audio Pilot" feature actually listens to cabin noise and adjusts levels accordingly. This would seem more advanced than simply relying on speed--and not factoring-in whether the roof was open, it's raining, etc. ANy thoughts?

Thanks Young for the clarification. I can just see myself at the dealer: "um, yes, I'd like you to disable the speed sensitive feature and take the Audio Pilot to -3dB." Anyone know if R.A.B. Motors in San Rafael has anyone good in the service dept.?

it wasn't until much later that i realized that one had nothing to do w/ the other and that my technician didn't know anything about the audiopilot, only the speed sensitive system.
my bmw has a similar feature (although i've been told it is based on rpm, not speed). but it isn't as obvious (maybe 1.5dbs)
