Angry Golly Gee Willikers!

HELL HELL OF A DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I am on my way to Wheel Doctor to pick up my new rims, C32 AMG rims! I've been excited for this day for the past 2 weeks now. Anyways, I get on I-270 here in Maryland, drive for maybe 2 minutes before I suddenly see 5 cars swerving in front of me and quickly pulling to the shoulder. Suddenly out of under one of the cars something flies under my car and I had a very LOUD, VIOLENT sound come from underneath the car, and suddenly my car starts sputtering and veering left. I get control of the car and pull to the shoulder right in front of the other cars. My tire is totally flat. I run to the other cars to make sure everyone is alright, everyone was fine, however each of them had either 3 totally torn up flat tires. My first reaction was DAMN, why is this happening as I am getting ready to put my new rims on, then I thought, hooray at least its only one tire. A few police cars showed up and were shocked by what happened, they left and ended up finding who the culprit of this accident was. A truck about 2 miles down the road had dropped some short of huge chunk of metal. The good thing is that we got the guys insurance info. I was also extremely happy that this happened today rather than tomorrow once I had my new rims on, and that no other damage was done, Or So I Thought... : ( So I am putting lifting the car with the jack, and suddenly I see some fluid all over the ground. I ask the tow truck man who was helping the other guys out if he knew what it was and he said, "oh dont worry thats just water from the tires" HUH?!?! Anyways, I get the tire changed, and I decide to continue on toward the garage to put my new tires on.. Well I get in the car and start to drive, and the steering wheel is SUPER stiff. It was extremely difficult to turn. Finally turning into the actual garage to pick up my rims, I found that I could not do it. My steering wheel wouldnt go far enough. I ended up stopping traffic for almost 10 minutes getting in there, and I had to drive in in Reverse. So I get there and the rims look AWESOME! The guy that worked there told me that I busted a line and all of the power steering fluid leaked out, which makes A LOT more sense. Anyways, at this point I know I have to take the car into the dealership to get repaired, definitely a hazard to drive. But we figured I should still put the new wheels on. So I put em on and they look sweet!! I call the tow truck, he gets there and raises the front of the car up onto his truck. I look down and can see oil gushing out of the bottom of the car. At this point I was like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! So I took it into the dealership, unfortunately it was already closed so I left the car there and I will be back in the morning. Worst day ever. Getting new AMG rims shouldnt suck this much.

Well....at least everybody is ok on the "accident". Make sure nothing else has broken other than the power steering wheel fluid pipe!

Good luck with your new wheels!

Sorry to hear that.

If you can I would stick it to the guy the cops napped. Multiple cars etc. Shouldn't cost you anything but time.

Post pics of your wheels on your ride.

I can sympathize with you...I seem to a magnet for road debris. A few years ago, a Semitrailer lost a tire just ahead of me. Several cars swerved around it, I didn't have any open lanes to move into. I ran over it at about 60mph driving my Pontiac...the car popped up on the two left side wheels, and the car tilted at a very sickening angle. Felt like a good two or three feet up in the air from inside. Well, I went over, the car came down(sparks and grinding metal when it hit) and went into a little slide, but I recovered and pulled over about a quarter mile later. No flat tires, but the nose of the car had been ripped off and shoved under the car on the right side.

Back in college, I was on a spring break bus when a work truck ahead of us started loosing 10 ft long steel piping off of a roof rack. Several cars were struck, and our bus as well. The guy kept going our bus driver finally caught up to him, and in the argument that ensued I thought someone was going to get shot. Good thing the police finally showed up.

Road debris is a BIG problem. There should be bigger fines and stricter enforcement of loose loads. Instead of worrying about if someone is going 72 in a 65, the cops should be looking for that dump truck dropping rocks and gravel onto the highway- debris that eventually ends up either damaging your car or breaking your windshield.

Glad to hear your OK. And as others have said, be glad it wasn't the new rims

Not too long ago a truck had lost some red bricks on the road, the car in front of me hit it, it broke into pieces and left a nice imprint in my bumper and cracked my windsheild. Never found the guy...

Angry 270 sucks!

I was driving down 270 last week and saw chunks of metal on the highway during rush near exit 11 to exit 9.

HUGE chunks!

About 6 cars were pulled over. bet they all got flats too. don't know if this was the same day you were picking up your wheels but it was around that area. 270 has been real bad lately with the repaving going on. Definitely get the Truck who dropped the junk on the highway to pay! Sue them if they aren't trying to pay. I would !!!

yup

HUGE chunks of metal. I was the only one who had just one flat tire. everyone else had 2-4 shredded up flat tires. it wa ridiculous!!! I dunno if it has anything to do with the repaving or not but something needs to be done about all of this road debris. I thought 270 and 495 had it worse than anywhere I have ever seen until this weekend when I drove to north carolina. They had the same problems there too, road debris is extremely hazardous and needs to be made into a bigger issue.

bensitto- How was the show at UMD ? any pics??

Couple of 190s showed up. One with a Evo Kit, looked sweet. And a SLK 32 AMG. One other stock C class. That's it.

We have to represent next time.
