What do you mean by acting up??

Lilbenz is the gasket leaking or can you see if the bushing is leaking?

We have the same amount of miles now =D

not as smooth as it use to be and acts like the cars with the radiator issues but not as bad. only when cold though otherwise shifts perfect.

Maybe you need to floor your car a little.. Clean out the bugs once in a while

The transmission fluid was seeping from the pan gasket.. likely got some debris.. I know it needs to be spotless. It's staying overnight with my indy and in the morning he is correcting the condition.

It's repaired and hadn't lost enough fluid to even need a top-up. It'll be serviced again at 140k.

Well what the ****!

Now I have a strong burning oil smell, especially noticeable after heavy engine load. Last night I went to a friend's house on the top of a pretty steep mountain road and when I got out there was a strong burning oil smell. The oil level is 5.2L, which seems fine to me since this works out to a loss of .3L in about 7,000 miles.

No leaks on the ground.

Suggestions on where I should check?

So I have crawled around, felt around, used a flashlight, used a camera with a flash in macro mode, etc.. I cannot find an oil leak. The vacuum pump also seems dry, though I guess it could leak and not be visible. But there doesn't seem to be any fresh oil anywhere around it. I also checked and re-checked the oil in dyno mode, engine warm but off for 5 minutes, I get 5.3L consistently on the perfectly level garage floor. It was 5.5L as I stated above about 7,000 miles ago at the end of 2010 - so it is not using or leaking any significant amount. No smoke, either. 105,816 miles as of right now.

I'm stumped.

Matt - Look at the steering rack & make sure one of the PS pipes is not dripping a little oil on the exhaust. Check PS fluid level.

Also, take your rims off, ship them to me, and I will send you a few beers

Great looking car man and good luck finding the oil smell.

The rims on my car are the stock 17" rims from the 2007 C230 Sport. I got them essentially for free thanks to Drew and Trey on this forum.

You came away with your favorite W203 rims in pristine condition! It's not like you were empty handed.

I'm due for an oil change in 1900 miles. Why did it start showing up on the screen at 2200 miles? I swear it used to be 1200.

I'm going to try to make an 800-mile round trip to FL to visit Drew in the next week or so, and when it is in for an oil change sometime thereafter I will have them go over the car for the source of the smell. It has not reappeared since that night. Still showing 5.3L.

Purchased a set of new Kumho Ecsta ASX tires this morning from Discount Tire Direct on Ebay. They have a sell going for 19 more hours. I got all four for $440.81, which is $90 cheaper than even my indy (which has screaming deals) can get them.

I plan to store these for a while. The Conti DWS tires on the rear of my car have 38,000 miles on them and have 10% more life.. maybe a slight bit less. But summer is here and I plan to wear them out totally. This is pretty amazing life out of a rear tire on this car.

Fronts are General Exclaim UHP that came with the 07 rims I got from Drew. The shoulders on the front DWS tires were worn at 29,000 miles of use and I let them go with the old rims to Trey. The Exclaim UHPs have ~9,000 miles of use on my car and a few thousand on Drew's. They're not holding up well at all, they're noisy, and their grip is pretty low. But not to the point where I'm tossing them with 30-40% life left.

The price of the DWS isn't too much more than Kuhmo. What do you like about the Kuhmo's better?
