trans leak

i recently brought in my (39k miles) 2005 c230 kompressor in to the mechanic

the invoice says he replaced leaking trans connector & parking pawl seals.

he said he stopped the trans fluid from traveling up to the trans control module.

i was charged $584 in labor and 150 in parts.

if the pan was full wouldn't the fluid be on the ground?

did he rip me off?

Trans connector is known to leak. Albeit rare, paking pawl seal does leak over time.
The leaks may be minor - not enough to drip down. Without looking at the car, it's impossible to tell if your mechanic ripped you off.

You should've looked at the trans connector and the surround area while the car was on the hoist at the shop.

On the bright side, your mechanic seems be aware of the trans connector problem and the problem (oil traveling up to trans controller) it can cause.

The trans connector is an 8 dollar part and takes less then 15 mins to do. Just sucks if you don't have a lift. Parking pawl seals i don't know what that is

If the car is lifted without an angle in the front then yes a little bit of fluid may come out during the change.

Thats a lot of money btw

I changed my trans connector myself less then 2 months ago

Common problem - expensive fix!! In fairness I don't know what all he did. As Xhale says the transmission electrohydraulic pin bushing is 8 bucks from RMeuropean. I keep a spare.

If the leak is severe, you can expect to see the trans fluid on the floor.
If the leak is very minor, you will only see the trace of oil around the offending part.

It's a slow leak around a seal that travels into the plug. Cheap part and relatively inexpensive fix.

Parking pawl seals, I have no clue where those are located so I'm hoping for you that this was the expensive part of the job.

$584 in labor and $150 in parts... hmmm

The parts involved are:
Trans connector bushing $9
Trans Pan Gasket and Filter Kit: $15 to $20.
Trans Fluid, 5 qts of MB fluid: $75.

Labor - To drop the pan, change the filter, change the connector bushing, put back new pan gasket, put back the pan, pour new fluid shouldn't take more than 2 hours. Yeah, you are over-charged on the labor.

Did he use genuine MB trans fluid? Are you absolutely sure that he checked the level of the trans fluid?

Hmm i get that all the time..

I called a few places to get my windows tinted.. I first called 3 different places to ask how much to window tint a nissan altima. Quotes around 100-130 dollars for all 7 windows. I then called the same places 40 mins later on a different phone to ask about my Mercedes. I got quotes of 220-250 from the same place. I then told them i called 40 mins before hand and got a quote for a nissan altima with the same amount of windows. 2 places hung up on me and the other said its a mercedes.. lol

But anyways

First you need to ask him if he checked the fluid level while the car was hot Ive been down that road with low fluid in the tranny

Thats a **** ton of labor money!! if he has a lift it should take no more then 30 mins for everything done!

I did that whole job 2 months ago i believe it took me an hour 1/2 just because i didn't have ramps i used jacks + jackstands

something isn't right!

How much does this guy charge by the minute?

its a factory trained mercedes tech with a lift.

he said it was traveling to the trans control module.so i think trans fluid was internally in the car?
