Servicing is just opening the sunroof all the way back and:
"Coat slide rails and slide blocks thinly with grease"
Klueber Polylub GLY 801 Grease Part# A 001 989 84 51

thanx for the responses. pardon my ignorance, but what are the rails and blocks? i think the rail are the brushed aluminum looking peices that are shaped like a 3/4 box channel. block, i have little idea unless this is what rides in the channel??? would white lithium grease do the trick or do i need to get the above mentioned grease? do the channels need to be periodically cleaned and how often to lube? thanx , mike

how often you need to clean and lube the sunroof channels depends -
- if you park the car under trees with the sun roof opened, then you should check the tracks often for debris. Also, if you drive thru dusty areas with sunroof open, you need to clean the sunroof mechanism often.
Regardless, you should clean (wipe the tracks and surrounding area with clean paper towel or clean rag) and spray thin layer of lubricant once every 6 months. That's what I do.

One more bit of advice regarding sunroofs: check the drains! I had water overflowing into the cabin due to some heavy downpours here in Oregon (go figure). I asked the dealer to check the drains and even though they said they did, they did not. I found a large leaf wedged into the driver's side drain and was able to pull it out. I forced some water through the drains and could hear it hitting the garage floor so I'm certain it's draining now. Check these drains before taking it to the dealer. Push down on the plastic guide and you will see them in the corners. The other TSB solution is to remove the sunroof and install a butyl cord around the sunroof (I may still have to have this done). The job is at least 10 hours + parts so expect to pay over $1,100 dollars if this needs to be done. Removing the sunroof requires taking off the headliner and that of course is gonna cost you tons of money.
