ya the hight temp paints from autoparts store is cheapest and good wayt o go. I did mine on a friends lift. Painted front and rears gold flake and put on red brembo decals like the old 350z and g35s had. I put on like 3 coats per wheel and 3 coats of clear coat. Paint is holding up great. however I also put down a layer of bulldog spray adheasive primer to help it stay and not chip down the road. this this could get hit with a boulder now and now chip. I did not however put clear over my decals though I've been thinking about going back and doing that.

What would be better to paint them with: engine spray paint or the g2/duplicor kit?

It really doesnt matter which choice you choose, as long as its a high temp paint you'll be ok. It all comes down on how you want them to look. I prefer the anodized look myself. Duplicolor does make a caliper paint kit, also it depends on if you want to hand paint your calipers or use the spray on kits. Just go to the auto parts store and check out the selection and see what you'd like. You can always sanding them down and redo them if you're not satisfied with your results.

Has anyone ever found a source for a "Mercedes-Benz" decal? I know of the one supplier in the past but the conclusion was that it was too big unless you had the larger brake system such as the c350s.

sprayings a bit faster but just make sure you tape off rotors and surrouning area to prevent overspray. I just taped up some newspaper behind the calipers and taped some down over the calipers...dont worry if you get some on the calipers because i'tll come right off as soon as you brake (just you dont want a ton)

I'm assuming you mean the rotors. I just completely took my calipers apart since I put my SS lines on and checked out my pads to see if they needed to be replaced.

Here is a pic of my rears. I put the brembo decals so they can match the front . I put jb weld on the part where the brembo decal is and sanded it down before painting it so its smooth. I did this because stock rear brakes have some number and stuff stamped in so decal wouldnt stick perfectly on there.

I would also suggest you paint the part of the rotor where the lug bolts go so that it can look better and prevent it from rusting.

that or you can just buy some steel wool and use it on that part. Steel wool is an awesome little clearner on parts.

So to for the spray technique, the steps are:
1. jack up car
2. take off wheel
3. cover surrounding area
4. clean caliper with some kind of degreecer?
5. sand caliper
6. spray on 3 coats of heat resistant paint
7. when dry, apply decal
8. spray on 3 coats of clear coat
9. when dry, put wheel back on and im finished.

am i missing anything?

I would spray brake cleaner on there a couple of times after sanding it down to clean all the debris off. Also I would use duplicolor prep towel degreaser, it works good, and would go over it with some Scotch brite abrasive hand pad to loosen up all the gunk on the calipers. Thats what I did. Also wait 10 mins or so between each coat, then do a final medium wet spray and then let it dry.

I would still use the paint brush kit depending on your choice of color.. No over spray worries and it goes on nicely. If you buy the kit it comes with everything but sand paper.. Tooth brush etc Just make sure they are clean and dirt free.

engine enamel is easier to chip than caliper paint even if they have the same heat resistant lvl.

just get the caliper brush kit you can get from autozone or kragen.

If i use the kit, can i still put on a few clear coats once the decal is on? or would it not dry right and turn out like ****?

clear coat is just to protect the decal if you put decals on them. there's no need for clears.
