Honestly, the tubes alone.. no. If you think about it, you're not changing anything at all without changing the airbox itself. Just because the tubes are fatter, the coupling would still have to be the same diameter as your current ones to fit on your airbox. Therefore, the restriction is still there.

Magnaflow will free up some top-end, though. My w203 revved easier with a magnaflow axle-back.

+1 The airboxes are your restriction

I might as well bite into this too since I have a c350 with the choked airbox. Do we have any options?

A CLK500 with stock airbox VS SL55 Airbox was a 3hp difference on dynodynamics. There for sure is a gain but you wont know for sure exactly how much. I'm sure if you upgrade the airbox with the tune you should see a decent gain.

I know the C32 guys upgrade to the SL55 airboxes and feel a difference. I'm guessing we might be able to fit an SL55 box ourselves? I really don't know if it will work.

the M272 airbox is more than enough for the 3.5L. all you need is to change the filter so that the paper filter's side slab isn't blocking 2/3 of the inlet.

Karo

Do you think the efficiency of the stock airbox w/ less of a filter "slab" would be enough to overcome the deficiency that OE noted during your dynotune re: choked air to the engine?

I really don't think the air filters alone would help. Now I have K&N filters and I have shaved the baffles like most people did but I have to get it dynoed before I can confirm it did anything. The reason is I do feel my car is not starving for air anymore but it might be a placebo effect. So won't know for sure. I don't know if I mentioned it in this thread but a CLK500 gained couple of wheel power with a different airbox so I'm guessing an airbox upgrade will definitely help.

Not sure if im on the same train of thought as you guys buttttt i have a c320 (w203) and i found a mechanic who for $200 will eliminate the plastic ducting going along the sides of the engine covers (which i believe include the airbox/filter) and installs mandrel bent chrome pipes with filters which can fit through the nostrils right behind the grill let me know if what im thinking of doing is totally dumb

@mlg, you will notice a slight difference and better response from your engine with a C32 intake upgrade since the Y pipe going into your engine is larger than the stock one but the coupling is still the same. You will get more air into the engine with this mod which will have some gains.

@manny fresh, you could easily do this job yourself with a dremel and $200 is too much for this DIY job which might hurt your engine since the pretty chrome pipes, depending on the metal, will get hot and all your doing is feeding hot air into your engine causing negative gains.
