07 C230 Headlamp housing project!!!
(***DIY****Post 10) 07 c230 Projector Housing Blacked out.
Hey guys i wanted to show what i just did to my bixenon projecter headlamps, And get some feedback on what you guys think. Here are the pictures of how it looks completed. At this time i am working on a DIY thread with instructions. I will update later, for now they are in my house so the sealant can dry between the housings. Seperated the housings and painted the chrome projector housing black.

what is the color of the car that you'll be installing these lights on?
It would be nice if you can post the pictures of the front of the car with the original lights and then the picture of the front with the modified lights.

They are going on a black c230. I will work on posting before and after pics later today.
The nice thing about this project is that the housing i painted black came out as one piece which made this much easier and cleaner.

Thanks Guys, They look much better in person also. The pics are not that great but there are some more below. Oh and i will clean it up and get better ones, its so dirty. Anyways bumper removal is a must. in some of the pics below i have pictures highlighting the bolts that have to come out to get the bumper off. behind each wheel liner there are clamping devices that have one t20 torx screw going through them.this clamps the bumper and fender together which i forgot to get pictures of. The fog lamp grilles have to come off because there are two 8mm bolts behind them. with all fasteners removed the bumper comes off straight forward, detach the electrical connections for bulbs and pull the ambient temp sensor out. then i have highlighted the bolts to remove the headlights, (3) 8mm bolts per headlight. Again disconnect the connectors and remove the headlights. remove the bulbs and clips on the lense. Preheat your oven to about 175F. put one headlight in at a time for about 12 minutes. Remove the headlight and gently pry the lens off. If you have to apply descent force put it back in longer mine almost came off by hand. then behind the sealant at the top of the projector housing that i painted black there are (2)t20 torx screws. with these removed the housing comes out. i applied 2 coats of primer, and three coats of black gloss, 2 clear coats. Be patient, the painting is the easiest part to mess up if your impatient. I know from experience. Reheat the housings and put clear silicone on the lens were the mating surface is. attach the two while warm and put the clips on. Let these seal in a temp controlled area for a while. i let mine seal for about 14 hours. then reassemble and install. This project is not difficult but very time consuming. Sorry for the novel, let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.

I know that they are expensive from the dealer. A pair would cost over $1000. I have seen some aftermarket headlamps for our cars that are cheaper but not sure about quality. I would search to see if anyone has put in aftermarket headlights and reported back their fit.

The only two ways i would go are oem bix. or depos and retrofit in some decent projectors.
if you can get bix for a good deal like i did i would go with them all day long. But if they cost like 800 and up i would consider retrofitting. but i like to get my hands dirty and would love doing something like that.

+1 for getting my hands dirty, i love doing my own work l
anyone ever heard of the hid "kit?" like it comes with a little projector ballast and then a transformer box that plugs into your harness so you have the correct wattage. seems kinda shady though...
and hey i just noticed you live in mclean, va. im up in bethesda, md just moved up here a couple months ago for work. is there anything that goes on around the dc area as far as people getting together with their cars and hanging out and stuff? im trying to find some things to do involving cars around here.

HID kits have been around for a while Mulac, if you do some research on here you'll see a bunch of post about HID kits for our cars. If you get the HID kits for our cars you need to make sure you get one that does error free code or you can DIY here's the link for it.

Dude you should have used way more clear coat on those. Paint doesn't look smooth on the right projector.. I would only take apart depos and other aftermarket headlights. Your just nuts for doing this to oem

"annoyance" and "self-righteousness", amoung others...
You are a smidge nuts for doing that to OEM Bi-X but I applaud the ***** it took to get the look you wanted.
Worst case scenario, ever had to go back to stock look, you could respray in silver/chrome and the untrained eye would never notice.
