Tire prices

Go to www.tirerack.com for best prices or Discount Tire, if you have an outlet near you, may be quicker than waiting for the tire from tirerack.

That is the thing with 18/19 inchers -- and why I stay with the C7 17 inchers, bigger tires and wheels are more susceptible to blow outs and damage.

Good luck.

Question

Even if we have no tele-aid, Can we get the roadside assistance from MBUSA? I think we can. Let us know if it is not true.

That's right. Good for as long as you own the car. It never expires.

MB Roadside assistance

What type of services are included in the MB roadside assistance? I was told it includes putting on your spare or a jumpstart. Is this free? Is anything else included?

i "think" they may give you a gallon or so of gas to get you to the nearest gas station. And thats about it. but still thats better than nothing.

The MB website reviews what they'll do for roadside assistance. Some things are free (tire changes) while others cost money (gallon of gas). There is no fee for maintaining roadside assistance.

Flat tire..

Ran over a nail yesterday and about an hour after I got home my tire was flat. I have C7. MB roadside assistance put the spare on and today I took it to Discount Tire, which repairs tires for free (unlike MB). Well, Discount claims they couldn't repair the tire (with 4600 miles on it!!), because I have "run flat" (?) tires and the nail did a number on the inside. Bottom line...$256 & tax for a new Michelin Pilot Sport tire. Has this happened to anyone else? The nail was almost in the center of the tire, so I was surprised they couldn't fix it, but the "run flat" has something to do with that. I am checking out the old tire tomorrow so I can see for myself.

I could be wrong but I thought "run flat" was when the sidewall of the tire got damaged from driving on the tire when it was flat (or really low), and not from an obstruction like the nail. I'm not 100% on this, so I'm sure some one can confirm or correct.

OK, I don't know what run flat is... is that a type of tire? If so, that's what the tire place said I had, and I am replacing it with the SAME tire, which was (is) Michelin Pilot Sport. They came with the C7 package, and the tire place said they are run flat.

Run flat (used as noun) is a type of tire. Lose all the air in one, and you can still drive for ~50 miles (REALLY stiff/strong sidewalls). Relatively new product (available for big bucks on in high performance sizes/styles for a few years, lower end products pretty recently - you can even get run flats standard on the MINI Cooper S!).

Run flat (used as a verb) is what you do when you lose most or all the air in a regular tire (like the Michelin Pilot Sport) and keep driving on it. Result is a thrashed sidewall, i.e. a non-repairable tire.

My guess is that your Discount Tire guy used run flat as a verb - in other words, you ran over a nail, lost most of the air in your tire, and drove on it long enough to do serious damage to the sidewall in your Pilot Sport.

$256?

that sounds awfully expensive...i thought the price for pilots came down quite a bit. installation shouldn't be that much either

i dont think theres any Pilot Sport Runflat Tire.

u must have been "running flat" a tire w/c is not RunFlat. get it?

so running flat for long periods=damaged sidewall=new tire.

RunFlat=is a tire capable of running w/out air for a considerable distance, but it too gets damaged if u run it for too long a time with no air.

btw i forgot, if u have RunFlats on, you should have NO SPARE TIRE at all, and ur car is equipped with tire pressure monitoring system. So for sure, C Coupes dont come standard with RunFlats.

goose egg on front tire

It's on my driver's side, about the size of a half-dollar. Couple of q's:

Assuming it's not covered, but is there a tire warranty?

If not, do I buy one new tire? (is it awful to drive on a tire with a goose egg for a while?)

Or is this a rationalizable excuse for putting some real tires on my car? If so, any recommendations?

TIA!

Is this a bulge in the sidewall ? If so it should be covered by warranty since this is a manufacturing defect.

Well, I think we've now figured out why Discount Tire repairs tires for free! :p Margo, unfortunately, I think you were "taken". If they said "you have run flat tires" and that's why they couldn't fix it, they weren't inferring that you damaged the tire by driving on it, so it sounds like they were lying. If they thought you had driven too long on a flat tire, they would not have said "you have run flat tires", they would have said "we can't fix it because the sidewall was damaged by driving while it was flat".

If you can get your tire back take it elsewhere and get it repaired. Then you will have a spare. You said the nail was in the center. Was it the center of the sidewall or the center of the tread part of the tire ? If it was in the tread it should have been repaired. Michelin Pilots are not run flats. Unfortunately I think you were ripped off in this situation.

Viper, yes, exactly what you said.

The initial screener at my dealer said she didn't think so, then passed me on to a tech, who of course didn't answer the damn phone.

So, since I have the day off (to work on the crx), I'll just drive over there at lunchtime and see what the real deal is.

Tommy, you should have received from your dealer upon delivery the Warranty booklet for the tires. I would read that first and find out about coverage and claiming procedures.

Go to tirerack.com

They have the warranty terms of every manufacturer and your specific tire type. It should be warrantied unless you are down to the nubs. The dealer won't warranty it, the tire manufacturer does and their rep should approve a replacement for you -- hopefully if it's a Mercedes dealer the rep will give you another -- no charge
