W203/CL203/S203 TIRE Discussion Thread - Every question on TIRES

+1 I dont know much about tires but I remember my buddy got this for his C6. All I know (but I might be wrong) is that these are DRY TRACK ONLY and once these puppies get heated up they grip like no other.
Aren't these tires close to 600 each?
Anyone recommend the Pirelli Pzero Nero? I got a quote for 235/35-19 and 265/30-19 = $936 balanced and mounted.
Edit
I use Michelin tires with PAX System on my old BMW 318![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)

Pzeros are great tires, kinda expensive but is good, i used them before on my BMW but prefer the Generals or Kumho instead, cheaper by hundreds and about the same traction and tread wear, but i dont use it for messing around so i cant tell you how they compare in a "adventrous" drive.

if pzeros are expensive, how do they compare with the michelins in terms of pricing? are both very similar in tread life, traction, grip, durability?
cuz im actually looking into get tires that have the above pros but for a cheaper price!

there's a bunch of different p-zeros', they make cheap models under that particular line now too. generally, PS2's are the most expensive tires you can buy. however, pirelli's tend to wear quicker than most.

Do Nittos wear out quick? I heard they grip well but thread life isn't that great. Can someone confirm this?
Thanks

the Nt555 street tires last me about 11-14k, the R compound tires about 5-6k of use before they are just like any other tires. again these were on 500+hp cars so it took alot of abuse. Nittos do wear quicker then the generals or kumho i have used.

Geez, my question got completely lost.
Anyone know if a CLK with the offset AMG's has different alignment
specs than the standard C class?
Same chassis...I'm thinking less toe might make the tires last longer.

if you want a "cheap" 19 that are like Michelin's then try the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric although they're not that cheap.
I don't like to cheap out on tires, I think it's pretty important and I'd rather have a good tire and oem wheels than a ****ty tire and some bling bling wheels.

the new PZero (not rosso nor nero) is about the same price as the PS2 if not more expensive. The tire performs very much on par with the PS2, but with stiffer sidewall. tread wear rating's about the same at 220.
some good new tires to try would be the Hankook S1 and Verderstein? these are said to have very capable performance compare to the new Eagle F1 Asymmetric.

your stockies were the regular pilot sports a/s or even worse the pilot primacies, both are not even close to the PS2's.

i think you got a really good pt saying that its better to have a good tire on nice wheels...

i think im gonna settle with the PS2, considering the fact that most tire prices are almost, if not, all around the same ball park...
thanks for the input though!

yesterday, i talked to a guy who had some knowledge of tires, and he was gona hook me up with a wheel/tire package.
He gave me a list of tire brands, starting from cheap to expensive...
The problem is, i don't know which brand is most durable, has long lasting tread, but CHEAP. im looking for a bang for the buck type tire...
here's the list he gave me (from cheap to expensive):
Kumho
Falken
Nexen
Yokohama
Cooper
Goodyear
Dunlop
Pirelli
Michelin
Any experiences of tires from the upper latter of the list?
im looking at 19"s, and its pretty much for everyday street performance driving.
any advice would really help!

My wife's 04.5 c230k now has 41k miles on it and it's now on its THIRD set of tires.
1st OEM michelin =>gone at 21k
2nd Yokohama es100 => gone at 37k (got them from tirerack)
3rd Falken 452 =?? (got them from DTD)
I will see how the falken last and decide what to do next time.
I kind of blame on the staggered setups so there's no way to rotate the tires. However, for almost 5 years, 2 sets of tires are a lot of money

does it exactly matter if either japanese, or korean, or american tires are better than the other?

Tyres are as personal as Car Brands - My opinion is that the French & the Japanese have the finest tyre technology - the Germans would disagree

Yokohama are generally not long life tyres - they are compounded for handling & I would expect similar mileage to a Michelin PS2

sounds like the toyo t1r's are the ones for the price and performance?

I can't talk sensibly about Toyo performance. They have about 0.01% market share in South Africa and I don't know of anybody using them on a Merc. This is a very Michelin orientated market.
