W203/CL203/S203 TIRE Discussion Thread - Every question on TIRES
Afriend told me to get 225/(forgot this number)/18 in the front and 245/()/18 in the back.
any recomendations? I got 18'' brabus Monoblock V
I just want something that is more quiet and smooth, if thats possible? I'd appreciate your opinions please. Otherwise, I'll trust some tire guy that will probably try to sell me the most expensive rather than the one best suited to my car and my needs.
Thanks,
Richard
I find the handling to be more than adequate as is. You would probably benefit more from a handling perspective (at trade off to ride comfort) by going with 17" wheels instead of 16" wheels.
I bought at Mercedes Greenway (59 @ Edloe). Where did you get yours?
I bought at Greenway since I live way out in the suburbs SE of houston. It's the closest one to me.

If you can deal with rubber that wears fast, but sticks like glue and inclement weather (a lot of it) is not too much of an issue... Toyo Proxes - HANDS DOWN. These are pretty quiet, very sticky and superb ride.
If you need a general purpose with some wet weather and can deal with fast wear, SO3's are the way to go.
I've had both and as soon as the new Michelin Pilots (suck) wear out I'll be going back to Toyos.
One of the fringe benefits on Toyo, btw, is that they're significantely cheaper than the big boys.

I'd personally would go with Kuhmos 712, cheap, really quiet, lots of grip, excellent cornering, really good on wet pavement, thread life is OK, but for the price and performance you get out of them tires you can afford 20k miles thread life.
He has put tires on my 99 Vette, 96 Suburban, 96 Impala SS, wheels on my 99 Vette, 99 E55, 96 Suburban, really honest guy! thrust me you'll be more than satisfied with service and price.

The question was not for me, but I got it there too!
Hey Pocholin thanks alot for the reference. I'll definitely call him and I'll get back to you about the outcome. Again, thank you very much.
Road noise generated by tire design has a lot to do with the quality of the road surface. You have no control about this so it is likely that any tire you choose will be quiet on some roads and noisy on others.
) and they are still noisy even then. The quietest tire I've ever har are those kuhmos 712 and also the best overall.
You are right, but I have the Bridgestone Potenzas RE730 and they are by far the noisiest tires I've ever had (they came with the car) in every type of road surface, the quieter they get is when I drive on pavement (the black one

I wonder if I get Kumho's at Discount tire I can take them back if I don't like them after a few days ?? anyone know how that works ? I have heard good stuff about Kumho's as well - but also S03's are supposed to be great.
I just want a quiet / comfy / cushy / long treadlife tire - I don't race my car and don't need max traction.

Plus, they only had the senior guys work on my car because I had a 'nicer' car with 'better' wheels than the average DT customer.

P.S. If you are getting new rubber, I HIGHLY recommend the SmarTire pressure monitor system. It rocks!
The Michelin MXV4 Energy is a good tire. Good not great.
The S-03s and Pilots and Kumhos (not terribly quiet from people I know) are all in the performance line, the first two will wear at about 20-22k.
Go to TireRack.com -- they have reviews, both professional and from consumers. That website is very good for getting you needed info.
You also might look at the Michelin Pilot A/S -- it is an all season tire that should last (tread rating at 400, I believe)and has some performance features (but not in the class of Pilot Sports) but are really expensive, about $200/ tire -- but check at tirerack as prices do go down. I also think that Bridgestone has something new other than the S-03 (great tire) for your driving style - check tirerack
