Tire recommendations?

I'm getting new tires for my C240. Right now, I've got Yokohama Nexuses (225/40/18) and the are LOUD AS HECK!!!!

Any recommendations for quieter tires? I've heard good things about the Yoko AVS dB's.

Also, does anyone know if a 235/40/18 will fit in the front (with H&R springs 1.2" drop).

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Bridgestone SO3's are supposedly the best tires on the market right now. I've felt the tread on one after some fun driving... sticky!

I personally prefer the Pilot Sports, but thats just me. the S0-3s are also very good tires, and they are cheaper. yokohamas typically have great feel, great grip (side-side), good power (forward accel), but poor tread life... very similar to the pirellis, only the italians have a little more comfort built in and a hefty price tag.

I'd pick the SO-3s or the Pilot Sports.

for good performance and good treadwear, Pilot Sport
for best performance but fair treadwear, S03
for good performance, good treadwear and slightly cheaper price, Dunlop SP9000
for good performance, very good treadwear and very affordable price, Z-Rated Kumho 712

I highly recommend Kumho 712, 70-80% of top of the line tires but only 50% of the price

the 235/40/18 is ok for the front, but 225/40/18 is better.

What is the Biggest Tire size I can fit on my Rims?

Does anyone know what the biggest size tires I can fit on my car? I have 18" rims and the car is lowered on H&R springs with 1 coil cut in the front. I really do not want to rub. Thanks for the input.

225/40/18 is recommended, but you can go 235/40/18 (which is what i am going to do with my MB IV's). On the rears, I was told you can go 255's, but then you lose the ability to rotate the tires....

I have 225 40 18" but it looks kinda stupid on my car. The rim is too wide for that size tire. I was thinking about 235 or 245 but im not too sure if it can handle it. 235 40 18 or 235 35 18? Hmm. I just scared I might rub. That would really be annoying.

funny you ask....i asked the very same thing and I think Luke from wheel experts said 235's were ok.

They are approx .7" wider than 225's (depends on the tire manufacturer). This should make up for the width problems with 8.5" rims. (hopefully it should help prevent curb rash too, especially when my wife drives my car) :p

With 18" use a sidewall of 40 in front and 35 in the rear.

yeah, 235/40/18's. I'd keep them all the same for front and rear so you can rotate 'em. I'm getting some 15 or 20mm spacers for the rears so that the wheels look flush with the rear fenders.

Tire Size - Performance: BMW 3 series vs C-Class

I noticed that BMW's (Looked at M3) has an inch bigger diameter in it's wheel size compared to the C-Class. Wouldn't this slightly increase its performance stats since it would take the BMW fewer revoloutions to cover a longer distance? Just a thought. What do you guys think?

(i.e. ifront in 18": BMW 225x45x18 Benz 225x40x18)

Tire size is taylored to the rest of the drivetrain - engine characteristics and gear ratios in the gearbox and the rear differential - for each make and model individually. So this question is not quite correct (sort of, apples to oranges).

If you're asking if putting tires of larger overall diameter will benefit your car - the answer will likely be "no". You are going to lose some performance "off-the-line" , but may gain some at high-speed.

That is, assuming your engine isn't tuned.

True, but the diameter doesn't change since the tire sidewall adjusts accordingly. I am talking about the overall diameter of the wheel+tire!

Which Tires...

I'm currently in the market for a wheel package. I'm pretty much sold on the AMG double spokes but I can't decide on a tire. I've read the reviews on Tirerack but need some real life feedback. I'd prefer to stay with something that gives a smooth ride with as little road noise as possible. Which of the three listed below best meet that criteria?

Pirelli Rosso/Michelin Pilot/Dunlop 9000

Pirellis are known for EXTREMELY FAST wear... you'll change them one a year at least and they are REALLY EXPENSIVE

Dunlops are decent, but their grip deteriorates quickly and they are not-so-good in the wet.

MIchelin Pilot Sports= the bomb... I love 'em. won't spend money on anything else. only the S0-3s are really competitive for performance and price and they seem to wear a little faster.

2/3 agreed with dasMafia.
I've used 2 sets of PZero and 1 set of PZero Rosso before. Very good on dry, poor on rain. And yes, you need to chage tires every year!!!
Used Dunlop once, didnt like it, yes, grip deteriorates!
Never used Michelin Pilot sport, so cant give any comments.

I am using P7000 on Volvo & VW and Toyo T1-S on the C32. I love the T1-S, I think you should seriously consider that as well, very good on dry and wet. The ride is more comfortable and not as harsh as Pirelli. Even the P7000, I find the ride pretty rough.
