On weekdays, the car is only driven to/from work (less than 10 miles each way, no bad roads). On weekends, I often take the freeway (10-20 miles each way). Sometimes, there are pothole/poor road conditions on parts of the 280 and 880 freeway. However, it's not really THAT bad; not enough for me to believe that is what's causing the excessive tire wear.
Less than 10 miles each day is guaranteed to give you bad mileage. Your mileage (mpg) sounds about the same as what I get with our C320 Coupe, and I also do ~ 10 miles or less a day. When I used to commute 2h each day, I would get 28-30MPG at around 70 mph on the freeway for 95% of my commute. 10-20 miles on the freeway over the weekend is not really enough to drastically change your reported mpg, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Check it the next time you take a long drive (1h +) on the freeway.

I know these are 17" Z-rated tires, but having to get new tires every year (assuming I drive 10,000-12,000/year) just doesn't sound right.
Z-rated tires are very soft compared to others, so you can expect reduced wear. We got around 18k on our tyres before replacing. The rear tyres wear quicker than the fronts, because they are the driven tyres. Because your tyres are uni-directional, you can only swap front to rear, if your tyres are the same width. With the new 2005 staggered width tyres you can't swap at all. I normally swap my tires myself. Swapping them is definitely a good idea - the more often you do it, the more mileage you'll get overall.

I run my tyres at 32 psi all round, FWIW. I would recommend you start checking your own tyre pressure regularly (at *least* once a month), and also your own thread wear - that way you know when to rotate your tyres. Also check the recommendation of the tyre manufacturer for rotation schedule.

make sure you check "cold" tire pressure as well...i.e.-driven your car less than a mile after 6 hours of being stationary.

Help on buying new tires??

I want to buy 4 new tires to my coupe, so I have 5 choices, but I want to listen to your opinion, since I only used 2 of these tires:

option prefered at the moment:

1º-Bridgestone potenza RE050 (dont know about) (recomended by bridgestone for the coupe)
2º-Michelin pilot sport 2 (dont know about)
3º-Pirelli P zero rosso (my father have it on his 05' A6, great tires)
4º-Bridgestone potenza s-03 pole position (I had these on my BMW and they where great)
5º-Michelin pilot exalto (dont know about)(recomended by michelin for the coupe)

I have 4 225/45 Continental contisport contact 2 with C7 wheels, and I want a summer tires

Whats your opinion?

Both the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 are highly rated.

new tires, Question?

have the c320 I am ordeding my tires today for the new rims. They are 18x8.5 all around what sizes for the front and back do you reccommend. What sizes are on your cars with no fender rolling or nothing, as we say plug and play, nothing else

I would suggest either: 225/40ZR18 or 245/35ZR18 (that way the over all diameter of the tire and rim is the same as stock and your speedo/tach/odometer aren't off)

I would also use the same tire size on all four so you can rotate regularly.

After slamming it a little the 245/35ZR18 would look sick!

As mentioned the 225/40/18 is a 'almost' perfect fit, and the 255/35/18 in the back is a good fit too...but I think that the 255 may also be a little too big for 8.5 wide rim (I may be wrong though)

This may help...

$0.02

I would stick with the 40 profile in the front if you are going 225 wide.

Also, 255 would be 'phat' on the back, but I would definately verify that it would correctly fit a 8.5 rim first. The reason I mentioned it, is because I usualy don't see a 255 wrapped around anything smaller than a 9 inch wide rim. To help you in this quest, I would contact a few local tire/rim places and get 5~6 answers and compare them (or contact that tirerack guy on here...)

good luck, and I better see some pictures when you get them on!

Kumho's are 'ok'
They aren't great, and they aren't terrible.

Tire Wear Out

Are rear tires get more wear out then the front ones? I kept the air pressure at 32 (front) and 36 (rear). I put about 21K on Conti. I rotated the tires twice since I got them new. My rear tires that I have on right now have been more worn out then the front ones. I am due for another tire rotation. And I am considering whether to leave the tires on as it is or do another rotation. Any suggestion?

Are you aware that your tires rotate whenever you drive the car?

1) Car's RWD 2) What are you asking? Since the rears are wearing more then the front, leave the tires the way they are until the rears go bald ??

Either way...try searching/posting in the Tire Forum portion of the board..might find whatever answer your looking for...

When you are talking "worn out" you need to be more specific; like inside? or outside? or center? That should give you an indication of your issues.

when was the last time you had an alignment? im not sure of the exact interval, or sugested interval but i know alignments are important along with rotating your tires (if you can). i get mine done every 10k, when i rotate the tires.

Getting an alignment and having it checked are two different things...If your questioning if the alignment is off...get it checked..I see coupons all the time in Sundays ad's for free alignment checks from various repair shops...

More traction, greater car control over a broader range of circumstances.

Use your 16s as winter rims.

Search the boards here, and at MBKlass, as well as EBAY, and you may be able to find a set of C7 or the Sedan SE 5spoke 17s with good or new tires for the same price as a set of new tires. Figure $400-750.

For the money, nothing will improve your handling and looks as much as ditching the 16" rims.

What nukblazi said. You may want to consider a set of high-performance summer tires as opposed to what you [most likely] had as stock tires (all-seasons), as you will not see any snow, being in California/408.
