Wink Portable GPS & Cigarette Lighter Power Source?

Hi all,

I m not sure how to put a title for this project which I called it GPS installation with a power source from Cigarette lighter.

Ok so I already have a portable GPS Nav unit and the power source is from the Cigarette Lighter. What is the best way to hide the plug in power adapter that uses the Cigarette lighter and mount the GPS on top of the center AC vents.

What I m thinking is that I could drill a hole above the AC vents so I could hide the power cable from below and glue my GPS on top of it and somehow split the cigarette power or make new power connection (which I have no clue) to supply the power to the GPS unit. Oh, I do not want to drain my battery.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

just my .02, you should've just done an aftermarket double din stereo with navi if you're going through this hassle.

"aftermarket double din stereo with navi"

That's a whopping $700+ plus installation hassle?

I m just thinking how to get the power supplied to my Portable GPS unit from under the dash. since I don't want to invest hundreds of dollars now.

but do you have any recommendation for the after market GPS unit?

Something you may want to consider. I hard wired a radar detector in my old car. Ran the wires through the dash and into the fuse panel. Cut the power adapter off and tapped in to the fuse box. Sorry I can't give you more detail but just got my c230 this week, still not familiar with the layout.

You can take power from the fuse box in the side of the dash. Both switched & unswitched.

THE C350
do not drill the dash what happens if you decide to move the gps or something it would look bad imo. put the gps on the far left and use the fuse box right below it for power.

+1 - There are many non destructive ways to mount it. If you want to hard mount it - Mount it to the A pillar cover. Then you only have a minor piece of trim to replace to take it back to stock.
