Door Pin and Surround Thread - All You Want To Know
I was going to tell you my pins are black (in my java int.), but I see you've posted your pic too, so you probably already realize the pins are black.
ZZZZZZZZZZZ... Oh, wait! my pins aren't Java. They're black! What was I thinking? Why didn't I notice?

Thanks, MarkL!

I am amazed that there aren't any other members from St. Louis. St. Louis is reported to have one of the highest rates of internet usage in the country.

I thought that you just wanted to replace the black ones with Java ones so that they blend in more.... Yeah, that's it!
The longer door in the Coupe puts the pin further back, and my guess is out of the way of one's elbow. It really inferferes with the shorter sedan door, though. The ancient pin top doesn't help either.
It looks like the coupe has nubby looking locks compared to the sedan with it's "water tower" looking ones.
Thanks for posting those pics.
But there are some on ebay every so often that are knockoffs.
Here's a picture of the Sedan door (primarilly to show the MBTex door panels) but it shows the door pins, too. Never put a ding in that bad boy, even though it must have been fifty times my size. Destroyer-Gray, to boot. I did drive it on the beach in Romo, Denmark - a Daytona-like, hard-sand, several-hundred-yards-wide beach you could drive your car onto and just zip around. Years later, the cops caught on, and my dad got a ticket for letting someone practice driving without a license. Wasn't me...
I can't believe they still use the same knob. I mean, if it works don't change it, but they must have produced a century's worth and their parts bin is still quarter full
Still not bad looking after all these decades...just goes to show you.
Tommy, didn't you have Brabus knobs on order?
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
This is how my door lock pins looks like.
whoops, shoulda read the entire thread first, Tommy.
Oh, we call 'em pins, not knobs. My bad.
Part # 123-766-00-22, choose any color, as long as it's black.
The old golf tee "lock plates" are $.50 each, but these simpler puppies are $1.70 each. Go figure.

The golf tee "lock plates" are probably something that has been lying around in the parts dept since 1968, and now they go on sale for a cheaper price

DtS, dude, isn't it past your bedtime? It's gotta be, what, 2:52 or 3:52 am your time, eh?
thanks
Jim
As best as I could tell, these don't screw into position like the ones they replace... you push them down. When I first installed mine they stuck above the sill when locked. Push a little harder and they will sit flush. I pushed too hard on my driver's side pin, and it now sits below flush. Be careful, because once set in place, they are very difficult to remove. (I can't budge my driver's side pin at all.)
Cost me $20 for all 4 doors, what do you guys think?
wonder where i can get them around the area where i live. orange county or la county.
