Question Door Pin and Surround Thread - All You Want To Know

Leather is only a week away! I was thinking of what to go with it. The Renntech knob should be here fairly soon. I was thinking of the Brabus door lock pins, which look great. Talked to Brabus, and they said that they are same as either slk or clk (can't remember which), and they simply twist off. Has anyone tried this? Don't want to break them before seeing if anyone has any experience with this first.

TIA!

There are a couple of pics at benzsport.

They are the little pins that pop up at the top of the door panel on the inside when the doors are open. You know the things that cost $3.50 at Pep Boyz, but Brabus charges $47.

Hey, I didn't say this wasn't a silly mod. I figure they're good for 2-3 hp.

tommy, you are an honest man.

But, please tell me that you'll draw the line at Carlsson LED washer nozzles.

I heard that Kleemann's were better. :p

Then, I was going to call some local manufacturers to see if I could get them locally manufactured for less than either of them. Though they wouldn't be tested, and might not work out as well.

on a serious note, to take those pins off, you just unscrew them... one of mine came off the other night when my F#@$# friend pulled it too hard

i tried

if it's like the slk and clk coupes, it has one particular direction it needs to face so that the "tab" inside is off of the threads. i figured it out the hard way, not much of a loss. i bought the c coupe's door pins/locks for my sedan. it looks better in my opinion, doesnt have the "old-fashioned" look. if you would like i could take pics of the "new" look.

ps can anyone help me post pics on the web?? i finally got my hands a digital camera and i'm still experimenting with pics. thanks

Replacing door lock knobs?

I have a '02 C240. I find the door lock knobs are in the perfect location to poke me in the elbow as I rest my arm on the interior window sill. I twisted one of them off while the door was in the locked position and the metal threaded rod was below the plane of the window sill when the door was locked. I can either cut these plastic ones off to the point where they are just flush with the window sill when locked and buy another set if I ever sell the car, or I was wondering if anyone sells them already cut. Any idea how much they are to replace from the dealer? I imagine they would only be a couple of bucks each. If you are confused about what I'm trying to do, look at the door lock knobs along the interior window sill on a Ford Crown Vic (the company car I drive on a daily basis). It's knobs don't have the funnel shaped flange like the Benz, but are rounded over and so short that they are almost flush with the window sill when the door is locked. Ideas? Opinions?

thanks
Jim

I think I know what you are referring to. Check out the C230. Don't we have lock knobs that re flush when locked? Maybe you could get a set of those and put them on.

Just a thought.

That's right. The lock pins on the C230k are flush when locked. Should be an easy swap.

Can someone post a pic of the C230 pins? I was thinking of replacing mine w/ Brabus pins, but the C230 pins may be another option....

I agree the lock pins are in the way. Wouldn't be such an issue if the door sills weren't so invitingly wide. Thanks for bringing this up. I thought the Coupe pins were the same as the sedan's, but since they aren't, I might look into swapping out the fronts myself!

But, I bet they don't have Coupe pins in Java... Oh, drat!

I dont know whether the coupe uses the same pins as the CLKs. But I've replaced mine with the CLK pins. I always wonder why MB is using the same design of pins in the past 25yrs. The pins that are on our C sedans are the exact ones that were on 280S in the 1970's.

I've thought of getting the Brabus pins as well, but I think they're very expensive in comparing to the MB ones. The MB pin is just $0.50 each!!!!! Yes, can you believe it? You can buy a genuine MB part for just 50cents!!! They are unbelievably cheap!!!!

I think I still have the part number somewhere, tell me if anyone wants it.

Of all the pictures I looked at this one was the one which showed the door pin the best. I never claimed that is was mine. I wouldn't be caught dead in a car with a Dallas Plowboys interior.:p

If you leave right now and drive straight through, you and your Speedo can still make the Dallas GTG.

Sorry - my Speedo will be on display at the Philly meet on Saturday instead.

When's the St. Louis meet?

There's only one Coupe in St. Louis, and Lynn's not the gregarious, sports-loving type.

Here's a picture of the Sedan door (primarilly to show the MBTex door panels) but it shows the door pins, too. The longer door in the Coupe puts the pin further back, and my guess is out of the way of one's elbow. It really inferferes with the shorter sedan door, though. The ancient pin top doesn't help either.

I was going to tell you my pins are black (in my java int.), but I see you've posted your pic too, so you probably already realize the pins are black.

I'm really surprised about the pins. That's amazing that they've lasted so long on the C class.

Well, another reason to like the ccoupe more than the sedan, I guess.

St. Louis meets occur any damn time I say they will occur. They are much easier to arrange than those where there are more than one person attending.

I am amazed that there aren't any other members from St. Louis. St. Louis is reported to have one of the highest rates of internet usage in the country.
