Facelift center console and dash to pre-facelift W203
Well this has been done before.
Actually it was Chris's (www.mbsca.com Mercedes Styling AMG Brabus Carlsson Kleemann MB CKM MBSCA MB Styling Mercedes styling & tuning delar) thread that opened the road to me.
However, my car is manual and M111 engined so there should have been some problems.
Firstly, i must make clear than NEVER BEFORE have I done anythinf DIY in any of my cars. Undertaking this project lead me to waters that I have never dreamed.My car is a manual W203 C200K with 163ps OEM, boosted to a healthy 220ps thanks to a custom pulley, FMIC and headers.
On march 2010, I have started gathering the first parts. A couple of 209 instrument clusters, a ucp, panels and an audio 20 as I did not wish the project oto go to high in cost. As soon as I got the audio 20 in my hand I stumbled upon an Ebay auction for a comand with no paypal option and low feedback. that lead to no offers and I took the risk. For 300 euros I think its top purchase.
On april 13th some a****le broke my rear passenger window, smashed my center console and took my chinese 7 inch touch screen (110 euros). So there I was with a hole in my dash sporting an Audio10 sitting over my a/c switches and on top of the Audio 10 the ucp. however my cluster was a 209 working perfectly except odometer.
This did not change until i got the necessary adapter from Mbsca.com on August.
One crazy afternoon I got my dash stripped and I tried to see if the audio20 and comand were working. The audio 20 did, the comand needed coding. However I did not have cluster info and steering wheel controls.
I seeked for help on Mbguru.com but I got much sarcasm on how my project was doomed and that I would need to even change tranny and engine to make it work.
Several hours of googling passed and lead me to find the canbus dustributor needed to have the audio 20 full working with custer info and wheel controls.
Then two friends passed by and helped me re assemble the dash.It was september 2010 and I had my audio 20, and my clk63 amg cluster working as a charm except 2 things (odometer and ucp).
On December another good friend helped me finish the ucp while on January the Greek STAR DIAGNOSIS God Papalos, coded my cluster and comand and installed it.
Finally two days ago I visited my garage and I had the cluster installed correclty into the dash.
Only thing left to do is fix the mileage. The mileage in this mod is a comlex issue and I will try to present it here as simple as it gets.
On 203s the mileage is stored in the EZS (the ecu of the steering lock) and the cluster . these two communicate constantly in "machine code". The Ezs has the mileage written in specific code lines and the same applies with the cluster. The 209 cluster has the mileage on different code lines and searches for it on different code lines (as it expects to communicate with a 209 EZS).
Each time that the cluster goes in and out the mileage of the EZS changes and the cluster's mileage also changes.The result is that my cluster shows 999.999Km and my EZS 1.600.000km!!! This will change though in one month.
The only drawback is that DAS cannot "SEE" the comand. So If i am to put tuner or dvd etc my comand has to be installed to a fcelift 203, coded with the extra parts and reinstalled to my vehicle. Steering wheel controls work perfectly, cluster also.

I'm hoping Ill get a responce to this. Love How you facelifted too. I did the facelift for a W209 cluster. The odometer, gas gauge, and cruise control option do not work with this 2006 cluster. I just bought a 2002 W209 cluster so I can give it a second try at the gas gauge as my car is a 2002 C320. Hoping the cruise control will work too. Can anyone give me some help to insure gas will work and have the milage coded? What advise would I give a indi shop?

oh by the way I moded the cluster with a W211 silver face. I left the black dials though.
Maybe, Ill swap the white ones out being that I'll have a spare one for parts if I F up

Gas gauge should work. My 203 is February 2002.
I was told by the guy who coded mine that no matter the model year gas gauge can be coded to work. But he is the Greek star diagnosis god, so it must be something quite tricky.
Odometer is a pain in the a** Cruise control should also
work plug n play. However not showing screen info. Speed limiter needs coding to work but dispays speed info

GIANNISANAG ..... are you saying that the 2002 clk clusters
gas gauge will work without any programming or will it need to be programmed by someone with star who knows how. I really don't care too much about the milage. That would be a bonus.

a pre facelift w209 cluster should work easily without problems. Still a coding will make it smoother working and enable some functions. You need someone who knows to use the Star Diagnosis and iswillingto do it
