Whoa. . . how are you gonna achieve 230 whp? What are you running right now? Sorry for the thread jack but that number is staggering.

Ha, well being a forum newb, you have
a. have a nice car with cool mods right off the bat, and people are interested +
b. you have a chance to start your own car thread, something I wish I'd done when I 1st started instead of a thousand disjointed threads.
Trying to find some specific info I've posted can be difficult even for me.

Burying your pics and info in someone else's thread, well, if I was to go back and try to find something you mentioned, it would be tough.
So, not just about net etiquette.
You've done pretty well for working in the dark.
Where did you get your pulley?
I don't know how you could make it any bigger, ASP already scrapes the belt on the water pump pulley.
Ah, see here we go, It's starting; a thread within a thread...noooooo!

Why not ask a mod to move this over to your very own thread, pics and all? I for one have questions....
Lastly what wheels are those?
I'm sure Glyn would be happy to help. He's the coolest mod we've had over the years.

I will open my own thread refer to that from now on.
Jerkin I do apologize again and thanks for being so generous!

Damn you Todd! Leave him alone and let him drop knowledge all per my thread!!! Haha. If he keeps all his pics and knowledge on here then he will not have trouble finding it later true about the pulley though, I remember doing it with you.

Well, hope you have a BIG checkbook if you're going to just write blank check to Evilsport.
I can tell you what is possible with this car is just a few sentences, you've already done some.
1. Pulley
2. Header
3. Free flow cat and muffler /exhaust
4. MAF and throttle body screen delete + Supercharger muffler delete.
5. Ported Supercharger
5. Larger bore throttle body, either by machining or a different throttle body.
Beyond this, there is chipping but results have been mixed at best, with little actual gains from doing it via a dyno.
So once you get past here it gets real expensive and everything above is gonna cost about 4 grand MINIMUM!
So now, check out Subby on benzworld.
The older SLK the R170 also uses the M111 engine.
At one point, Mercedes used the Eaton M62 Supercharger, before downsizing to the M45 unit.
Subby has one with the M62, + has larger crank pulley AND smaller SC pulley, + all kinds of stuff.
I doubt it would be legal in California, but certainly everything that would allow an M62 to bolt right up would be available from mercedes or a donor car.
I like the sound of his exhaust pulling out on the track, the thing seem to haul ****. Haven't determined if he's got a 0-60 or 1/4 miles time or dyno.

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170...ng-thread.html

Figure out how to drop a ported M62, resolve fuel issues with perhaps larger injectors, and custom fuel maps, + everything else listed and....hmm....how much this gonna cost?
Or just go buy a wrecked C32 or SLK32 and swap everything, register as the donor car!

We sometimes call him Mr. Mehoff.

I couldn't find the Renntech Intercooler sale thread. It seems to be deleted.
Anyone know what it finally sold for?
He started asking like $1000 and dropped the price rapidly towards the end, got all the way down to like 350 or something.
But in the early days, they showed no gains from this, and I think even perhaps a loss. A spray system, rigged to the windshield washer yielded some gains, or rather less loss on multiple WOT runs. IC doesn't produce gains, just less loss if it works at all, and doesn't cause a loss from the
pressure drop.
Search username Buellwinkle from 2002-2003 timeframe in this forum. He tried and dyno'd many options.
I didn't want to spoil the guy's sale.
And not sure if anyone ever gave this a go.

Donor car will still be a hassle unless you got a super awesome garage and full knowledge on how to swap that c32 engine+ essentials like tranny and diff... Because you might as well if you've got the donor car already... But that can easily result in minor errors that will lead to one big one if 120% of the swap isn't Perfect! Also.. I might be buying a new supercharger eventually... Should I get the m65 then? What would the price difference be? And what kind of throttle body can you replace ours with? But it'll probably be around 900 bucks for a new one of any kind so for a few horses that's like a slap to the face

143 hp? Something is wrong.
Check all the connections from the supercharger, through the IC, through the MAF to the throttle body.
Any leaks equals HP loss.
I went nuts trying to find a gasket that seals the MAF.
It doesn't seem to have one.
Generating extra boost don't mean Shiiiiit if
it's all blowing out before it gets to the engine.

I wrapped the MAF in cloth tape, and used an oring I got from the hardware store. It STILL doesn't seal very well, as the oil thats blown all over from that connection attests.

Maybe when you buy the MAF they include the gasket, but I scoured the
EPC, and didn't find it as a seperate part.
143HP is the wheel HP of a C180, you should be at least
170-180 minimum. I've never done a dyno, I should.
(Happy now Max? he he, I wasn't just saying what I said to be nice, I have a ton of comments and questions for this guy.)

M62 not 65. Getting it to run would be the interesting part. Forget money,
just have a lot of it before you start ha!
Hey, if you want 200+ hp at the wheels, it's gonna be 10HP here, 2 HP there.
Throttle body is good for like 3.
Intercooler, maybe 5 less lost on a hot a day.
Porting SC, maybe another 10,
Header, maybe 10, free flow exhaust maybe 10....

After the pulley, all other gains are small in comparison.

Getting more boost is the obvious way, but the Siemens ECU our cars use vs. I think the Bosch in the older M111's, aren't easy to hack, and aren't cooperative in increasing the fuel ratio, some have tried and failed, but every day, I find out new stuff, so keep reading.
With a pulley your car runs lean, which is good for emissions, and bad for the engine, runs hotter.
Porting the supercharger makes it even leaner. Thats why I didn't do it, but Seacoupe has passed 200K and seems to be doing OK. Hard to say! Just pulley alone, the guy's at the muffler shop was pointing at my cat some time ago, saying hey, you see this purplish tinge on the metal, thats means it's too hot, caused by lean condition.

There's a lot I don't know though....

Haha I have no idea about my car either. I might have the slightest leak at the throttle body because I don't have that rubber circles that goes around the throttle screen. But it seems fine. When I tried to use a new screen and it was letting just a bit of air in, I ended up getting the CEL >.< buddy of mine cleared it for me

Since Evilsport sold out and doesn't own this forum anymore, it's acceptable to say that their unofficial motto is "A fool and his money are soon parted".

OMG!!! That right there is the most important damn mod ever!!!!! I ripped off a smaller piece of soft microfiber towel. Shoved it right above both screw holes that are located under the third brake light cover. Did it under both bolts. And didn't tighten them all the way obviously but tightened them until it was tight. So that trim was just like my old car. The part near the window sometimes would shake the slightest bit and tap the glass.. I've been getting pissed off since I got the car with this but it used to only happen at the perfect frequency of the exhaust but I couldn't ever figure out what was rattling. And my sub was repeating the frequency so I just heard that rattling. And just parked the car and crawled in the back and looked everywhere haha. Finally found it. Unscrewed the two screws under the third brake light cover and put a spacer( basically microfiber towel) near the screws. Couldn't get my small spacer under there.

I like the black painted trim to match the rest of the car. Since mine is Oyster, never occurred that wouldn't color match the trim in the hatch.
BTW- I did a whole thread on STICK ON FELT that you can get at a lighting stores in sheets or round pieces intended to go on the bottom of lamps.
I pulled all the trim at the time I fixed the damn hatch switch (done that yet? Seems to happen 100K +) and put it all back with little thin strips of stick on felts on all the edges.
Worked like a charm.

Oh and they don't call 'em Evilsport for nothing.
Check out their $5000 headers for some other cars. HA HA HA HA HA!!!
5 grand for headers!!!?!!! Yup, they don't own the site any more MORONS!!! HA HA HA !!!!! I did buy my brake kit from them though, it was a great deal at the time, like $600.. Vadim was a cool guy. The rest...well.
Maybe they aren't morons. The people who pay 5 grand for 8 ft of welded pipes are morons.

Thats why the pulley on the M271 was a failure. It runs out of fuel at the top end.

2005 CLK55 AMG Coupe
Hahaha~ you guys are great!!

I do keep a documentary of my coupe... It's just wasn't on online forums...

Ok Mr.Todd let me try to answer your questions one by one because there was a lot of info posted in the past few days and they are pretty over whelming~

1) I have two sets of wheels
2) Thanks for summary and the web link
  • I think I'll put the M62 on the top of my list, seems like that is the more efficient way for power gain. But why would it be illegal in California?
  • Swapping was the first thing that I considered when I started last year. but the price for savaged C32 were all around $11000. that is 1k more than my budget for the entire car. personally I would be better off with a used 05 clk55 for $20000
3) I agree... 143whp was the baseline before I begin upgrading
  • 143 is determined to have malfunctions already pre-exist in the system I but have yet to target them. (I was hoping that by going to "evilsports" they would help me find some, they say I should be no less than 170whp stock)
  • Since then I haven't dyno after upgrades, I do not know what gains each part contributed.
4) I do not know what pulley was mine... so I'll post a picture of it:

no official measurement but i'm guessing almost 8.5in in diameter...

PS: can anyone varify that these are supersprint??

OK now my turn

  1. our M111 are cast-iron blocks... no doubt that its strong, so why can't we achieve higher power while the old 2L vtecs can?? (apart from siemens chip being so difficult)
  2. apparently there are horror stories about "evilsports" that I do not know about. Thanks for the heads up but I've tried many performance companies here in socal and they seems to be the most experience. (yes their customers are all very well off, their garage is quite a sight...) what other person/place can I go to to have my car upgraded?
  3. to be honest... after reading all the threads and posts... I am very discouraged... I love my car, I know it has potential to do better. Assuming all my "parts" has been decreasing performance, it stil makes every drive enjoyable. I love the solid sound of my exhaust, steering is heavy but it holds its place going around bends, it under steers at corner exit so gotta throw the back around even if ESP constantly cutting power >< I don't want to loss faith.... reality why you so cruel?!!!

So in conclusion... I'm willing to throw in all my savings of $2000 to achieve 230whp

Please tell me how those $2000 go. Because I'm in the same exact boat haha. I began weight reduction in the rear already Even though my sub counteracts but I can always pull that out. And my steering is awesome with my h&r sway bars. The rear one is thin but I've noticed it's perfect size! Coilovers make the handling so much better. Power mod I'm doing next is to open the second air intake port and putting a screen to let air flow into the engine so that it can get cooled down more.
