Vents smell like _______
About 2 months ago I noticed this odor that comes out of no where. It's a very strong odor too. I went ahead and sprayed a lot of Lysol disinfectant spray on the cabin filter and also in the vent while the AC was on. I mean a whole lot. It was great for about 3 weeks and now the smell is back again. I noticed it happens when it gets really hot. The smell just comes out of no where. How should I get this smell out? Do you think some kind of rodent died in there? Again this always happens after 20-30 min of driving. I'll be stopped at a light and boom the smell just hits me.
I didn't change the cabin filter yet because it seems clean (i believe i changed it 20k miles ago). Anyone else had this issue and got it resolved?
Thanks

He told me Matt smells like strawberry short cake loool
But many have tried the 1Z Klima Cleaner and love it.
You just spray it in the center vent and let it sit for 30mins then turn on your ac and let it cycle through. It'll smell like lemons for 12 hrs or a day then it'll become neutral. It'll last about 3-5 months and you just redo it again.

Would mildew come and go like that? The smell is on and off. One moment it comes and then it's gone. Pretty embarrassing when you're driving with your GF next to you. I mean how many times can you blame it on the vents? Especially when the smell comes and goes. My GF is not car savvy so even though It's really the vents I don't think shes buying it![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)

Tommy, We did leave couple of love stains in the back but then I had the thing detailed![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
Mulac, at first I was thinking it might be bugs but it's a real bad smell. Smells like some kind of animal dies. I looked around and nothing. I remember reading long time ago that if a plastic bag gets stuck on exhaust it smells like shyt too but I looked around couldn't find anything.

I have on my previous car. If you follow the instructs right it should be ok. some guy did it on a forum and turned the can upside down, which your not suppose to do. Turning the can upside down and spraying caused the liquid in the can to turn in to foam so he jacked up the vents, plus he didnt spray it in the center vents where the evaporator core usually is. When you turn on the ac the excess liquid will drain out where the water drains out of the evaporator core.
I think spraying Lysol in the vents would be just as dangerous.

I had the same issue. Change the cabin filter and then get a box of baking soda ( type u would put in the fridge with mesh vents). Leave that mo fo in there for weeks to obsorb-displace the stench. Within one week, u will be victorious!

try to stop AC 5 minutes before stopping the car but leave fan running, it clear humidity and without humidity the bad mildew odour just wont come on again.
It can take few day after odour treatment to completely fix this with this simple trick.
It work

+ 1 Stop A/C 5 min before closing down. Bacteria breeds faster in warm & wet conditions. Take one element away & Voi-la!!

Karo - you need to kill that crap or it can cost you a new evapourator. New evapourators are microencapsulated with an anti bacterial.
