Why Must It Take So Long....
Is anyone else out there going crazy waiting for their car to get in? I've been so restless ever since they told me about my delivery date. The more I read this forum the quicker I want the car to arrive. Those of you who had to wait how did you cope and what did you do to take your mind off it.
Note: I feel like i'm talking about some addictive drug or something...I don't even own one yet and I'm already addicted

Crazy? No, but every day that goes by means that spring is getting a little closer - which means that prime roadster season is going to be here shortly, which means that one of the big reasons for getting rid of my car goes out the window! Dammit MB! Hurry!

I feel your pain. I ordered my car the last week of August and it's on the boat now, with a scheduled delivery for the last week of February (seven months - ouch). If I hadn't wanted factory leather I could have had a car in October (maybe this would have been the way to go - the CST leather looks pretty good in the pics I've seen - plus a two tone combo would have looked cool). I also didn't want a panorama roof - and most of the cars made when factory leather was reintroduced had the panorama roof (I guess since these two options were ordered together frequently as part of the C5 package). As it happened in mid-November the dealer, as part of their random assortment of cars for the lot, got one that had all of the options I ordered (silver, leather, bose, no roof, and C7) but was an automatic - they gave me first dibs on it, but I was fixed on getting the six-speed. But now, only two weeks to go - and next week I'll be away on business so that week should go by quickly. Might just have to take a couple of days off work the following week to break it in, though. Maybe they should have official "paternity" leave for car guys when they get a new one .

Sal, I think my dealer is sick of me.
I am impatient to receive the car and people who turn up at dealers and buy off the lot are not helping.
My persitence almost got me the car a couple of weeks ago. The dealer managed to find one in the area that met my options, so I had my flight booked down to Laguna Niguel and the time off, only to find the dealer that owned the car had sold it while negotiating.
Now I see other colors and think black was the wrong color for me. the damn Magma red is causing me problems but I really wanted Oyster Leather but was not prepared to pay a special order fee.
I am also going crazy. My wife thought once I had ordered the car I would stop obsessing about it.

The long wait..........
Hey, Sal, hang in there, Bud.
Your C230K will be here soon. At least you have pictures of some "real" c coupes to look at. For the longest time we could only look at pics from the MB websites or brochures. Also we watched hours of dreadful TV hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive c coupe commercial. I saw it only once, then even that disappeared. I ordered my c coupe 7 July 01. Was told it might arrive Sept., then Dec. Finally took delivery 14 Jan 02. The first 4 months of waiting were painful and I read and reread the c class brochure. Then I got bored with the whole process and luckily got really busy at work, and then...the car arrived. Your c coupe is worth the wait!
Hey, if you really need a fix, come on down to the Keys. My c coupe needs a bath. Trade that for a drive??
I'm sorry. I hope that didn't sound mean. I meant it to be funny. I know the wait is hard, but the cars seem to be arriving in numbers now. One of them has to be yours.

Another thought
Hey, Sal,
You can safely say that your c coupe will be here before hurricane season starts. Does that help? Not really, huh. Hang in there.
Deb
ps: That's 1 June for you temperate zone folks.

Tom, I would definetly be up for that when I finally get it. It would be nice to take local pics together and post here.

I feel sorry for everyone who is waiting so long, but what did your dealers do to **** off MB. I ordered Aug 16 and the car arrived Oct 27. The salesmen at my dealer thought it was very humorous whenever I asked about delays because of Mad Cow disease. I was later told straight out that there were no delays because of Mad Cow if one went to the "right" dealer.

I don't really have any delays. I specifically told my dealer when I ordered in early December that I wanted my car at the end of February. Not only did that happen to be typical arrival time for an "order from scratch" (3 months according to MBUSA) but it happens to be timed to match up with my tax refund and my bonus at work. Of course, my car isn't on a boat yet, just sitting on some loading dock in Germany, so I may now be looking at first week of March (or worse).

Well, i'm on the other side now and can honestly say, the wait was well worth it. I ordered mine in July and finally took delivery tonight.

When I took delivery, the salesman said there is still a 5 month wait for a leather coupe due to the backorder. That was last month.

Man, I guess I was lucky. Didn't wait three weeks to get exactly the car I wanted - orion-blue, sunroof, evolution, 6-speed manny.
It was on the boat from Bremerhaven when my dealer phoned me with the good news.
I'll tell you, what got me through the 2.5 weeks was that little 1:18 scale model I kept fondling until I got the real deal. Downsize is the real car doesn't fit in the elevator to take it upstairs, and it's too cold to sleep outside, so at night, I have to settle for the model...

Waited over six months - Feb to Aug - for a 240 C2,C6. Ordered a 2001, ended up with a 2002! For the quoted price, no less. And to repeat the MB mantra, it was well worth the wait - the car is great, I'm incredibly pleased, and it's a heck of lot of fun to drive.
