Can anyone identify????

Hello everyone. I drive a 2002 C230 Coupe. I recently went to the dealership to have some work done and was asked by the service guys about this tube that runs from my oil dipstick tube to the front of my engine bay. I have no idea what it is but they told me that its not a mercedes thing and has something to do with helping pressurize the oil or something like that. Does anybody have any clue what this is for and why someone would do this?

Are you sure its connected to the dipstick tube??????
That pump is a vacuum assist for the brake booster when starting from cold. Its supposed to connect to the booster pipe on the intake manifold then T off to the booster. And its very much std mercedes benz!

not sure. I only know for sure of one dipstick and that is on the right side of the engine surrounded by the plastic engine cover pieces. Yea the guy at the dealership said it had suttin to do with the oil and when I looked up where the oil dipstick was it pointed to that back corner of the engine.

Your dealer needs to be educated.
it has nothing to do with your gearbox, like you rightly say the gearbox dipstick tube is on the other side of the tappet cover. its just a vaccuum assist for your brakes.

Standing in front of the engine your gearbox dipstick tube is at the rear of the tappet cover on the right, and your engine oil dipstick is on the same side but more toward the front of the engine, the gearbox dipstick is a special tool so your car will just have a plug covering the tube.
