Pleased it's fixed. Here a new compressor is (including labour) R15,000 = $2142. I can't comment on typical US pricing but you did well.

thanks glyn, I have since found one online for 600 vs the 850 but I would have to wait for shipping and I am glad to have it done. so now I just hope I'm in the clear on repairs for a while and can just stick to routine maintenance. since I no longer feel secure on previous maintenance I'm doing an oil change about 5000 miles before service a is due and prob going to do plugs and coolant flush as well. time to put the horse in front of the cart.

okay, the sputtering when starting the car with a/c on has returned. since the compressor is new I am optimistically going to rule that out. any ideas anyone?
