Ran over the threads of a truck tire

I was on the route 135 and a person in the other lane drove over the threads of a broken truck tire and launched it infront of my car.. Unavoidable I ran it over and the tire slapped the passenger door of my vehicle.... So now there is a huge dent. I have a 200 dollar deductible for collision. How much do you think this will cost me?

Based on this quote
I have a 200 dollar deductible for collision
I'd say this will cost you, oh, $200.

Was this a serious question?

I don't think it is as simple as you think. I'm not sure this paranoia people have about insurance claims - YOU PAY FOR IT! Use it, this is its only purpose.

Almost any damage to a Mercedes or any car will cost you minimum $100 so I would say if it needs any more then a pop out it will be over $200 easy. So call up you insurance company and get it fixed and move on with life. All my car need after a small accident was realign front bumper, replace one fog light (buy gluing a new one in those ****ers), and paint it and it was 1200 or something like that.

I hit a dirt embankment going like 10 back in 08.

EDIT
Final cost before deductible was $1450.
and parts were only $120 and the rest was paint work and fixing the fender as you can see it has minor damage.

Post some pics, let's see the damage. But yes, it will most definitely go over 200 easily. If you're not at fault, meaning if you couldn't avoid it then your insurance wont go up.

Yeah, I was gonna say...
my door was replaced, and it was $2500.
And you have bumper and fog light damage as well.
You could pocket the 3500 and get a used door etc.
installed and painted about 1 grand.
Looking back, that's what I should've done.
A door from a junkyard ready to bolt on is only about $250.
Your front bumper could be buffed and missing pieces replaced
for a couple hundred tops and paint wouldn't be more than $500.

Hes going to machine buff my car.. I wonder if he can help me out with the deductible as well :o) And do you find this weird that after the adjuster told me the bumper, undercarriage protector.. passenger door, my wheel needs to be refinished.. My first question to him was is my headlamp ok?? (I did a projector retrofit)

What do you mean by helping you out with your deductible? Like waiving it?

what i woudl do is get that insurance money and go to a different body shop and ask them how much would it cost...and if they say $3500, talk them down to $3300...which should be no problem...here is your deductible!

You should just pocket the money, you can door dent out 95% for around $150 with PDR (paintless dent removal). A detailer could easily remove most of the black marks, if not all, for around $300. Purchase a new fog light, mesh, and plastic.

You could easily make $2000 minimum if you just take the cash from insurance and fix it your own way.

Why waste so much time and effort, just go thru insurance and get it all done by one shop. Time is money!

In my suggestion he will not have to pay a deductible...i mean all and all the car is drivable, and if you are car saavy then you could do all that work yourself and pocket $2K...so he can make a choice

Karo is right

allstate here...
I really don't know how you can just pocket the cash unless you work out a deal with a shady, non-credible shop (yes, there are a lot but you shouldn't bring your car there to start off with).
See if you will be determined at-fault or not.
If you're not, then go ahead and get it repaired, that's why you have insurance.
If you are at fault, then get a couple of estimates from credible repair shops. I usually told my clients that if the estimates are less than $1,000, then repair it yourself (you will end up paying more out of pocket when your premium increases for the next 3 years). If more, maybe consider going through with a claim. This is pretty general, it does vary depending on the individual client (how many family member, vehicles, ...).

so after meeting with the Geico adjuster this time around and my claim statements it was deterined that it went under comphrensive instead of collision which brings my deducitble down to 50 dollars. He explained it to me that because the tire flew at me it was comphresensive. But if the tire was laying there and not moving it falls under collision... So my car will be fixed hopefully within the next few days and I will keep you guys posted to what was replaced/repaired. FYI I get to keep the broken fog lamp and I did not realize how big those suckers are.

And useless! There for looks only.

Glad to hear it worked out. I'm sure your car will look like nothing ever happened.

I dont think any fog lamps provide anything except looks unless you put hids in them... but putting hids in them blinds everyone else.. Im happy that it did smack into my headlamps

Line 4 at the bottom state to fix interior that was cracked? After this minor fender bender I heard a lot of road noise. Is there something I guess solid inside the door used suppress road noise?
