Strange Noise: Timing Chain
Hey guyz, really need HELP this time. I had a car accident about 3 months ago which cost me about 5000euros to get the car back in the streets. When i firstly took it for a ride I heard a strange noise - cant describe it specifically but it sounded like a pulley was damaged and didnt rotate normally. when i took the car to a friend of mine he said that the noise was coming from the timing chain area. The noise can be heard when the car's rpms are idle or at low rpms then it disappears. I suppose that there is a damaged in the timing chain or the plastic things around it and when it is stretched it disappears but when loose it produces the sound. any ideas ? Im a little bit afraid of touching the timing chain cause it is very delicate

Does the chain area make a noise when you first start the car after it has stood for a while and then quieten when the oil pressure comes up?
If so it is either the chain tensioner or the cam timing mechanism. Only fix is to replace the chain & tensioner & deburr the cam timing arrangement or replace it.

It could still be the chain tensioner & cam adjuster. It must be absolutely shot though because it should quieten as oil pressure rises as it is hydraulically operated.

People on this site recommend removing the auxilliary belt & to run the car for a very short time . This will tell you whether the noise is coming from this system or not.

Are you absolutely sure it is not the Poly V belt (aux belt) tensioner. A common failure & squeels.
Take the belt off & run the car. If the squeel goes it narrows down to pulleys, tensioners, water pump, PS pump, HVAC compressor, alternator.
