I have a 2003 Mercedes c230k 4 door sedan and I cannot for the life of me, get the oil filter cap loose so I can change the oil. Do you turn it to the left or right? The reason I ask, is because there is an arrow pointing clockwise. I have been using vise grips to get it off and now its stripped. I have tried to turn it both clockwise and counter clockwise. Someone please help.

you need the oil filter cap wrench. Autozone or any parts store might should have oil filter wrench. You'll need a 74mm x 14 flutes wrench.

I've tried all the different generic oil cap wrenches etc. None work. I ended up buying the original Mercedes tool from the dealership for like 30 bucks.

You can also get them off ebay for 15 bucks. These are designed exactly for MB oil caps and wont ruin your oil cap cover while removing them.

the belt wrench works like a glove too, they sell them in generic parts stores!

I tried a few belt wrenches and they kept slipping because of the indented shape of the oil cap. Maybe I was just using a ****ty belt wrench.

if you have a 2003 C230K then you have a M271 engine and thus you need a 21mm socket with a universal to undo the oil filter housing

I'm pretty sure it's 27mm, not 21.

What is this filter cap thing you speak of? Never needed one for my car?? (same year, same model, same engine)
