Speaker stopped working
My front right speaker has just died on me, and is now sitting in front of me. I pulled the door apart and found it had a good signal going to it, the speaker just no longer works (internal short?).
So now the big question is where can I find a replacement speaker.
The part number is A 203 820 11 02 no one seems to sell them and I refuse to spend money at the dealership. I'll go aftermarket before I do that (I can replace the tweeters with something much nicer if I do that).
My car is the standard audio 20 system so I don't want to go crazy with the speakers. I have a nice 4 channel amp in the garage but I refuse to go down that route again. I wish I could go with the infinity references (I've always liked them) but they are 2 ohm . Anyone know of really nice set of speakers that are as sensitive as the stock ones?

If you don't want to stay OE then Polk make quite a nice direct bolt in replacement. The Infinity's are nice but you need an amp happy with that 2 ohm load - close to a dead short.
The failed speaker's voice coil has probably gone open circuit.
Phister - I can't see your for sale thread link.

Has anyone tried the Infinity Kappa 60.9cs? The W204 guys seem to like them, the sensitivity is very high and they have the nice star tweeter adapter for easy install. These are all good things. Last time I heard them I thought they were a bit harsh but I'll have to take another look.

I've always like the smooth sound of the infinities. But this time around I'm thinking of either the polk DB 6501, the CDT CL-61A (I hear very good things), or the phoenix gold RSD65CS (the sensitivity a bit low though). Of the lot I've only heard the polk's, they are pretty good I think very close to the infinities as far as my ear goes. I can't even find the others in a shop, but as long as they have silk dome tweeters they can't be that bad.
I can't stand overbright systems in a car. Especially when you are sitting right on top of the tweeters in our W203.

Matthew Polk's designs sometimes get an unfair rap from the more fashion concious than sound concious car audio bunch. They have a nice balanced sound in a car at a reasonable price.

Not on a C-class lol. I love the way dynaudio systems sound, I dont want to put forth the effort to tune them, esp when I'm thinking of getting rid of the car. I just ordered a set of ID CTX 65C. The forums love them and I've been so impressed by the 8" ID sub I put in I figured why not. We shall see.

My big question is, you said thy are direct bolt replacements. I went to Polks website and it said all the speakers should be installed professionally.
So is there any modification's that would need to be done ? I have an 04 C240.
Thanks.

The Polks sound great with the Audio 10 HU. The big difference over standard is definition.
No mods required right down to tweeters with little Polk logos. Phone Polk.

So the new speakers just got in.
Where did everyone mount their crossovers? Is the wire going to the tweeter and to the woofer the same signal stock?
Also the speakers are very heavy

I've got the speakers installed and all I can say is wow the tweeters are amazing, I'm hearing things in songs I've only heard with high end headphones.
The mid-bass however is very much so lacking. I hear the speaker needs time to break in but something is not right, the tweeters can get ear splittingly loud but the woofers are blown away by the stock units.
I'm wondering if I may have wired something wrong. I was under the impression that the Green wire was + and the Green with brown stripe is -. Can anyone confirm that?
