Mercedes C180 multiple failures after running DAS
Hello,
Can anybody please shed any light on the problem detailed below?
Ran DAS (Xentry 2011) on a 2003 C180. Whilst this was being done 2 young kids were messing about with the radio - turning the volume up and down and switching the radio on and off. I ran a full diagnostics on the car, and found one or two engine faults which I cleared. This car does not belong to me, but the father of the young kids playing with the radio.
When I finished with the diagnostics, we realised that the radio was off, and would not switch back on again.
The owner of the car does not have the Security Code Number, so that could not be input from the steering wheel, but the radio is stone dead. I advised the owner to either find the SCN card or get the number from Mercedes dealership.
Now he phone me about 5 week later, saying he has just come back from holiday, and apart from the radio, the following is also not working:-
Both headlights work
Front sidelight - driver side dead - passenger side working
Rear running light - driver side working - passenger side dead
All indicators - front and rear not working
All reverse lights - not working
Front fog lights - driver side working - passenger side dead
Rear fog lights - all dead
Has anybody come across such an occurrence, with such multiple errors, especially with some lights working, some not, after running diagnostics? No coding was done, just reading fault codes!

Try unplugging the battery for a while. I had a similar issue, I was also scanning my car and my laptop battery died in the middle of the scan. My car wouldn't start or anything. As if the car didn't recognize my key. No lights would turn on nothing. I unplugged the battery for maybe an hour and then everything started working fine again.
Good luck,

P.S. Sounds like it was scanning the SAM and something happened. Are you sure the kids didnt accidentally pull the OBDII plug or something? Not questioning you but surprised that playing with the radio during diagnostics mode would cause such issues. Can you go into the module and do a reset with DAS? I couldn't do this on mine because key wouldn't recognize but I would try doing a reset or pulling battery out.

That would normally look like SAM trouble but the combination is wrong. I agree - try rebooting everything by disconnecting the battery.

your scan test or playing with radio will have no effect on the function of the vehicle, after the car stood while he was on holiday, did the owner not perhaps jump start it, because that can cause the SAM to fail.
Check the fuse at the rear of the radio,
SAM failure are very common. we see plenty failures.
I have scanned 1000's of cars and have never seen DAS cause a problem even if you pull out the OBD connecter during a scan.
