Met someone who had a quote to get his engine rebuilt for $25,000
Well, I was at work and met this contractor who drives a w203 C180. He told me the teeth which grip onto his belt were broken off and the belt came off damaging his entire engine.
He got a quote from MB for $25,000 worth of repairs. After market warranty wouldnt touch it and said it was wear and tear. He ended up finding another specialist to do the job for $5000.
Crazy story isnt it.
How can I be sure the same wouldnt happen to my car? Is it common for the teeth on the belt wheels to snap off?

Teeth? Belt? Engine rebuild?
Does he mean that the car jumped time on the timing chain and ruined the engine? That is not wear and tear and should have been covered by the warranty.

2006 C230, 2006 BMW M3, bye bye C55:(
when my fathers 1996 s500 kicked the bucket, the dealer quoted him 25-30k for a rebuild and an indy quoted him 10k
My father decided to go the smart route and lease a new S550. Why anybody would rebuild a C-class(unless an AMG and even then....meh) I have no clue. Its probably one of the dumbest things to do considering you could lease/buy another car fr the price
