Tranny kickdown and running on 3 cylinders
Here's a weird one...
If I push the accelerator down enough to make the auto tranny kick down one gear, the engine will immediately stumble and start running on three cylinders. I have to stop the car, shut off the engine, and start up again to get it running on all four. I then have to start off really slow to keep it from doing the same thing again. How could these two issues be related?

The CEL is on, but I haven't had a chance to get the codes checked yet.
Any thoughts?

It's definitely not running on all four, I've had similar problems in other cars, it runs rough at speed, has no power at all, and at idle, the engine and car are shaking quite badly. I will try to get the codes pulled ASAP and report back.

I have a similar problem with my 2003 C200k. Used to work fine, but just recently, have the problem that nearly caused a pile-up when my car wouldn't move when it should have. Was idling at T-intersection, pressed peddle to floor, and instead of rocketing forward, the gearbox seemed to change into 3rd and only torque-converter moved it forward - very slowly. Approaching traffic had to break heavily to avoid t-boning me. On moving forward, it would not move into lower gears and would only accelerate slowly - but seemed all cylinders working - just low power. Pulled over and switched off engine. Restarted, and no change. Stopped again, removed ignition key - then restarted and all was well! Back to normal. Except whenever I floored the peddle, the problem returns. This is dangerous. Would a 'sneaky ECU reset' fix this, or is it another trip to the stealership?

Definitely check the codes, but it could be the O2 sensor and/or the MAF sensor.

Tranny kickdown on C200 Kompressor
I have the same problem a C200 Kompressor 2002 automatic
When you drive it anything before kick down it drive like a battleship
as soon as you hit the kick down for more power it just runs on low power
and even the acceleration from stop is dangerously sluggish.
I had the codes checked and it came up OK
I'm booking it in to get looked at next week, I'll post the results.
