Weird thing, happens about 70% of the time - otherwise it'd be off to the dealer already.
New sedan, 900 miles so far. For a while now when I sit at a light and have the clutch pedal pushed down I can feel a weird vibration in the pedal.
This vibration feels kind of like an axle rotating through damaged bearings. Every once in a while a crunching feeling. All very slight, as if it's happening in the engine or transmission somewhere.
Tried: a/c on and off, accessories, on and off as well as in gear or in neutral. All don't make any difference.
Thoughts? I'd like to identify the issue before taking it in lest they totally take the care apart, upside down and then note NPF.
Thanks
Peet

My 2003 sedan does that too, only when the AC's on though... Come to think of it, I think my old E36 M3 did that too...
heh e36 m3 .. that's what I sold and got the coupe - then traded and got the 230 sedan. Funny.

Since I remembered your post while driving today, I paid more attention to any feelings of vibration, etc. in the clutch pedal when fully depressed. I felt nothing, A/C on. Seems like you should get it checked. But, I do have a C240, don't know if there's any difference due to drivetrain, but still seems strange.
Sounds like something finally broke

Hmmm -- did you see his other post about a probable major problem w/ the AC? I'm wondering if it was some type of vibration from the AC that was being transmitted through the firewall and he felt it when the clutch pedal was fully depressed against the wall.... like, not really related to the clutch??Originally posted by avlis

I think the vibration may be normal. I brought the car in this morning (and got a silver c coupe as a loaner - just like the one I traded in for my sedan :p) ... the service writer gave in without hesitation and had their senior mechanic come up front.
We discussed it and he thinks it's definatly A/C related. The oily fluid is likely compressor oil from the A/C condensor. He said that these cars have a dual mass flywheel/clutch. Mercedes warned mechanics that some vibration is to be expected - and even though the techs said customers won't be happy, here it is.
Still waiting for final info.

No vibration whatsoever through my clutch pedal on my C240 -- you might want to drive another manual and compare...Originally posted by peet

I don't feel any vibration in my clutch on my 2003 C230K SC either.
Alrightee folks. This now becomes an official request for comments thread (TM) #2. (i'm copying here as well)
I just spoke with the service advisor. The A/C compressor 'imploded' (their term). Best part - there is not a single replacement compressor in the US nor Germany. They are estimating 4 weeks for a replacement.
The car has literally 1003 miles on it. How can I get them to replace the car? What tack should I be taking?
Thanks all for the 'forum hug'
