STOP LAMP VISIT WORKSHOP!

So Lately when it Rains or even when i go thru the car Wash i get this Error search and didnt find anything on this site.

Thought it was the Brake Stop Lamp Switch but its not!

found something on mymbonline about someone saying the REAR SAM Might have a moisture problem.

Have anyone had the Error Before?

Check the rear SAM or tailight harness. Sounds like water is leaking somewhere and moisting up.

Hey mike,

Don't u have the s-class style lights ? Make sure they are not leaking because sometimes those seals will break down aging

Oh yes, have had this happen on the Coupe. See if the contacts, both on the bulb and the bulb carrier have oxidized. Often cleaning them with a pencil eraser will help, for a while. For a long time I gave the car and annual "bulb sacrifice."

I think the moisture/humidity causes the resistance to go up and the system thinks the bulb is out. Before I started the bulb sacrifice, ours would act up almost every day that was rainy+cool.

I had a write up on the 05+ tail light. I spliced couple wires and used the new connector.

got the same thing error on my 2003 CL500 which i just bought like 4 days ago and then it decides to rain in san diego and after something got wet or possibly wet i saw this same exact error. I go into the trunk no fuse box or SAM (thanks to waveykat i just learned what a SAM, since this is my first mercedes lol) All i see are the 2 rear tail lights entrances through the carpeting. i opened them up and the plugs there are just EXPOSED poorly done. but of course i saw no condensation. Oh yea, the sign went away after everything dried off. Also when that error comes up when i first start the car the ABC and suspension up lights just flash for a bit. but that also disappears when the STOP LIGHT sign disappears. any thoughts and anyone know where the rear sam is for a 2003 cl500

When The Stop Light Error Comes on All Three Brake lights Stays on constantly untill the error goes away.

@baekim: if you get the Fuse Chart Layout for you Model it should show the Rear Fusebox location

Thanks waveykat. It always gives that error in the morning when I first drive the car. and then goes away all day until the next morning. I think it's a problem with the rain gutters on the trunk my friend. Yesterday I noticed a little bit of water leaking through the sides when I was getting my window tinted. Going to check the rear tail light connections tomorrow. After that I'm gonna buy some silicone seal and just seal off the rain channels on the sides of the trunk.

CONFIRMED waveykat...pics to come soon. The leak in the tail light portion is confirmed. As suspected leaks right on to the back connection area of tail light and worse if it doesn't get the tail light can leak to the amp, pse and the spare tire area. Horrible

Looks like he owns the STAR system so no need to use a dealer.

Well over the weekend i took all the Carpet out from the trunk, i also removed the taillights and the REAR SAM. check and looked for Water leaks Nothing was found.. i also took apart the Front SAM no water there either..but just to be safe i used Clear Silcone Sealer around the Tailights and there ever i think water can come thru. put everything back together.. The Repair Manual Said Try Resetting the Rear SAM.. To do so you have to Disconnect the Negative Terminal On the Battery and wait 15 mins. after that i wash the car didnt get any error.. it rained this morning and so far still no Error but i dont want to speak to soon. but so far everything seems good.

yes i own a Star DAS :-) and the W203 Repair Manual..

ok so last week tuesday and wednesday it rained alot and the Error Came back.. :-( so on saturday i took the Front SAM/FUSE box out completely removing all fuse and wires. and i found water corrosion around 3 fuses and 1 wire from underneath the SAM.. Luckily i had a 2005 Front SAM from 2 years ago. :-) i switch out the SAM and also added the water Cover over the SAM/FUSE Box that comes with the 2002+ C-Classes.. so far everything working great.. i went thru the car wash no error yet (knock on wood).. it supose to rain tuesday let see what happens then.. i will report back.

got a call from the dealers. the stop lamp error is gone, it hasn't come back. BUT all 3 of my brake lights are flickering on my cl500. anyone dealt with that before?
