Car stalling then won't restart. HELP

My c class 240 stalls at red lights and stop signs occasionally and then won't restart for about 20 minutes. It turns over but won't fire up. After waiting awhile, it starts fine with no problems. Could it be a bad fuel pump? Battery? Crank position sensor? Camshaft position sensor? spark plugs? HELP PLEASE!!!!

very likely Crankshaft position sensor. Before replacing any part, first check and see if there are any diagnostic codes set.

+1 - You can try pouring cold water on the CPS. It gets very hot mounted at the rear of the engine. If she then fires up you know for sure you need a new one. Read stored codes as pcy suggests.

Agreed. Get a code scanner, and post your codes and we can better assist you.

I had this same problem two weeks ago and for what it's worth... it was the Crank Position Sensor.

No complaints on my part! Since my car is a '04 C240, it's about time stuff starts to break or deteriorate.

CPS for sure, we see it all the time at the dealer, there pretty cheap and easy to fix

Thanks so much. My car is at the repair shop but hasn't been looked at yet. Is this something my husband can easily replace???

It is DIY but a real fiddle due to poor access down the rear of the engine. You have to work blind to remove a torx bolt. Need the correct tools.

BTW - The cold water trick is what Mercedes roadside assistance have been trained to do.

I read in the Haynes manual, according to MB, that a new CPK may need to be reinitialized by STAR. Is this true?

Never known it required. Haynes manuals are not the best on these cars. Full of mistakes. Please don't believe their torque settings.
