C240 vs C230 Sedan
I'm looking at trading my C240 in and getting a 2003 C230 sedan. Does anyone know the major differences or does anyone have any advice against this?
Thanks

It's going to cost you dearly to do so and the V6 is a nice motor although a little weak. What is it about your C240 that's worth taking this big hit of probably 10K when you factor sales tax, registration fees and depreciation. At this point you may also want to wait until 2004 in July/August timeframe.

It may sound stupid, but... The paint chips from the soft paint is really bugging me, so I wanted to get something new and get the "clear shield" installed. I drive about 600 miles a week and the car is looking really trashed because of the soft paint. When I looked into just getting a new C240 the C230 Sedan caught my eye but I didn't know a lot about it. I've only looked into the C230 coupe.

Hey deanlnh - don't let that money burn a hole in your pocket. How about send me a check for $5000? Sounds like you can spare a brother a dime (and then some).
Seriously, if the paint chips bother you - touch them up. If that's not good enough, get the front end resprayed. Otherwise, why spend so much money for something that minor? Hell, the ice cream truck might t-bone you on the way home (Lord, I hope not) - kinda puts the paint chips in perspective.
My 2 cents.

As others have said, I would advise against the trade based on the info you have provided. You stand to lose a lot in depreciation. But if that doesn't matter and you need a new car, you might want to consider a used C320, or even a new C230 sedan. Either way, you will get more HP (which you didn't list as a concern) and save a little dough. But if money is not a concern........

The main difference is of course the engine. Other minor differences are (but not limited to): Digital Climate control, back seat HVAC Fan, Full Power seats.

The main differences are the engine, the external facia, the wheels, the suspension tuning, the font seats.

I do not know what the HVCA fan is.
Both do not come with full power seats. They are options on both.
So pretty much only that one difference? which i don't even know what that is.

The engine is the main difference...1.8l S/C 4cyl vs 2.4l v-6. The 4cyl is faster and gets better gas mileage and has a cheaper base price.
Personally, I don't know how MB still sells the 240s at all.

TXTiger: I've had it touched up before, and they are doing it again next Friday. The major problem I have is I've only had the car 11 months, I can't imagine how bad it's going to look when it's paid off 3 years from now.
