2001 c320 leak sound .

My 2001 c320 just recently started sounding like it has a leak. When I drive the car you can hear it in the cabin. When I press the brakes it goes away. If I turn off the car I can still hear the sound. It's not the ac it still makes the sound when I turn it off. Any ideas?

Update While turning it off if I pump the brakes once the air pressure releases . Sounds like a piston or something.

This was when the car was idling, if you listen closely and put the video on HD you can hear when i push the brake down the sound goes away.

Please check all vacuum hoses for leak. You might also have a hole in the brake booster diaphragm. How are the brakes? Do you have to push harder than usual?

It does not sound expensive.

Doesnt need to be pushed harder . Wherre are the vaccums are they located inside the cabin or in the hood? How much can they cost? How will i determine if its a hose or brake booster diaphraphm?

Under the hood. You will have to listen while someone pushes the brake for you.

OK - Just check the brake booster hose first. Follow the hose back from the brake booster & feel & listen for leaks. Otherwise check all thin hoses in the engine compartment. Thick ones carry water. This will mean you check breathers as well but that's OK. Listen carefully for the noise you hear.

I would buy genuine hoses - especially if it's the brake booster hose.

You can fit a K&N air filter if you want to. I would stick to stock filters & worry about maintaining the rest of the car. A breather, as an example, takes oil fumes from the crankcase to the inlet system to be burnt off by the engine.

The first thing to diagnose is where the noise is coming from. It might not be a hose.

You sound uncomfortable about working on your own car. You have a 2001 model & they were known to be more troublesome although Samaritrey's 2001 has been a good car.

Maybe you should take it to a good independent shop to sort out.

Another thought. Please check the condition of all rubber boots, grommets & plugs in the firewall to the cabin.

Yes - That's why I said check all rubber boots. I think you should have the brakes attended to by an Indy brake shop to make sure everything is OK.

It might just be engine noise leaking through a hole in the boot but you might have a master cylinder leak or a vacuum leak on the booster. Does the car use any brake fluid?

Don't see any leaks having a mobile mechanic look at it. Supposively I need to replace that plastic lining around the engine block its not leaking but its old. The tranny is strong do you think a DIY self job could be done to replace this.
